2023 Ford Explorer Facelift: Electric, Interior, Facelift, Limited, Hybrid, ST

0

If we consider that the current generation of Ford’s three-row crossover has been around since 2019, the next year seems like a perfect time for updates. From what we know so far, the 2023 Ford Explorer is about to receive a mid-cycle refresh. At this point, the officials are still quiet, but if we look at the latest pictures of the Chinese versions, this looks like a certain thing.

At this point, the details about the facelift are still unavailable. However, the rendering photos show a lot of interesting things, especially at the front, while novelties in other areas of the vehicle are expected too. Besides the styling, the Blue Oval company could also update the interior, while the engine lineup will probably remain the same.

Among novelties, we will also see a new trim level, called ST-Line. The 2023 Ford Explorer should hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022, while more precise details are expected in the future.

As we already mentioned, most of this update will be in terms of styling. We count on a typical facelift, which should keep this model competitive for another few years. The exact details are still unavailable, but we presume that the new model will have a lot of similarities with the recently introduced Chinese version. This model comes with a couple of interesting revisions. First of all, the grille features a little bit different pattern, though the shape remains the same. Furthermore, we can see new air vents on bumpers, as well as a new set of wheels.

On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle will probably remain the same. This model rides on the company’s familiar CD6 platform and it is one of the rare three-row crossovers with rear-wheel drive, at least among mainstream brands. The driving characteristics are good, with a nice balance between comfort and athleticism.

Interior

Of course, a couple of updates on the inside are possible too. We could see things like new color schemes, as well as a couple of new materials. However, most of the cabin will remain the same. This SUV looks okay from the inside, though we have to say that rivals look nicer. Simply, several areas feature low-rent materials, while the build quality isn’t impressive either.

2023 Ford Explorer Interior

On the other hand, there is nothing to complain about in terms of interior space. The first two rows are very generous and accommodate adults with ease. The third row also seems pretty functional. When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on about 18.2 cubic feet of space behind the third row 47.9 cubic feet behind the second and 87.8 cubes of the total cargo volume. Those are pretty good ratings for the segment.

Features

Of course, we count on more standard equipment in the new model. For example, the currently-optional 10.1-inch infotainment screen could become standard, while higher trims could come with something even bigger. A few more tech goodies could be added to the list of standard equipment.

For reference, the current model comes standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, four USB ports, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, and a Wi-Fi hot spot, tri-zone climate control, remote start etc. Additionally, you can get goodies like a 12.3-inch customizable driver display, a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, a rear-seat entertainment system, and wireless device charging, as well as a double moonroof, household power outlet etc.

When it comes to safety, the current model comes standard with goodies like a rearview camera, MyKey, driver drowsiness monitoring, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection. So, we don’t expect to see too many novelties in this aspect.

2023 Ford Explorer Engines

This aspect probably won’t bring changes. The 2023 Ford Explorer is about to carry on with a couple of gasoline units. Base models will carry on with a 2.3-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 300 horsepower. For those who are looking for something peppier, there is a 3.0-liter V6, which puts out 400 horsepower.

A hybrid version combines a good-old 3.3-liter V6 with a single electric motor, with a total output of 318 horsepower. Also, a plug-in hybrid version could be offered in North America. We count on a system that combines the twin-turbo engine with an electric motor, for a total output of 450 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque.

2023 Ford Explorer Release Date and Price

Considering the expected facelift, we presume that the 2023 Ford Explorer will hit the market a little bit earlier than usual, though still within the second half of the year. When it comes to the price, the current model starts at around 34.500 dollars and we don’t expect to see a bigger increase in the future.

Key competitors are models like Toyota Highlander, Chevy Traverse, Honda Pilot etc.
