2023 Ford Edge: Time To Say Goodbuye!?

0

The current generation of Ford’s mid-size crossover has been around since 2015. However, it still marks pretty good sales results. However, its production is getting close to the end of the cycle. According to the latest reports, the next year will be the last one. After that, the Oakville plant will be reorganized and start producing electric cars. This means that the 2023 Ford Edge will be the final version of the SUV and, logically, we don’t expect to see any bigger changes.

We are about to see a familiar design, with familiar design and features. Therefore, the Edge will continue to deliver solid performance and offer a long list of standard equipment. We also like its spacious seats, as well as a decent cargo volume. Considering the age, the Edge isn’t without flaws. Its interior looks a little bit old, not just in terms of style, but in terms of low-rent materials as well.

As there are no significant changes to come, we expect that the 2023 Ford Edge will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2023 Ford Edge Design

As we are talking about the final production year, it makes perfect sense to see no bigger changes in the 2023 Ford Edge. Instead, we are about to see a familiar design, which has been around since 2015. This SUV rides on a familiar CD4 platform, with an FWD layout. The ride quality is still okay, though we have to say that most rivals offer more engaging handling and better maneuverability. Some rivals are more comfortable at the same time, especially the new Jeep Grand Cherokee.

When it comes to styling, the current generation was updated three years ago. However, the Edge still looks relatively fresh, as it follows the brand’s contemporary design language. Logically, the next year won’t bring changes, though there is always a chance to see things like new color options, or maybe even some appearance package.

Interior

This aspect definitely won’t bring changes. Therefore, you may count on a cabin that offers a decent design, though it looks a little bit outdated. This particularly refers to the dashboard design, despite the new 12-inch touchscreen. Simply, the materials are unimpressive, while aesthetics belong to the previous generation of Ford vehicles.

On the other hand, there is nothing to complain about when it comes to the passenger space. Both rows of seats are generous with head and legroom and accommodate adults with ease. The front seats are also quite massive and with good support, while the driving position is very good.

When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on about 39.2 cubic feet behind the second row and 73.4 cubic feet of the total cargo volume. That’s about average for the class.

Features

Since we are talking about the final production year, we don’t expect to see any novelties regarding the standard and available equipment. Therefore, all models should come standard with dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, a 12-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, four USB ports, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and a six-speaker stereo. Among upgrades, expect to find things like wireless device charging, navigation, 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, ambient interior lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a household-style power outlet, remote start, a universal garage door opener, and a panoramic roof.

The same thing goes for safety features. Therefore, base models should come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high beams etc. The list of options should include lane centering assist, evasive steering assist, adaptive headlights, automatic parking assist, front-view camera, rain-sensing windshield wipers etc.

2023 Ford Edge Engines

The 2023 Ford Edge Engines will continue with two familiar engine options on the offer. Base models will continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, which is more than enough to ensure good driving dynamics and a convenient ride. For those who look for something peppier, there is the optional 2.7-liter V6, which is good for 335 horsepower.

When it comes to fuel economy, the base engine returns around 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, which is pretty good for the class. The V6 is slightly thirstier and returns around 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, which is typical for a mid-size SUV.

2023 Ford Edge Engines Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2023 Ford Edge Engines will arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year. Since there are no bigger changes to come, we presume that the price will remain the same as well. The current model starts at around 35.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Honda Passport, Chevy Blazer etc.
