2023 Chevy Equinox Redesign: Significant Changes for Chevrolet Crossover

0

Chevy’s compact crossover has always been among more popular models in the class, despite it has always been criticized for various things. The current generation is no exception, so GM enthusiasts were eager to hear the latest news about the redesign of the current generation, which has been around since 2016. The new model will come soon but it won’t bring just a regular redesign. It will change this nameplate completely.

That change refers to the powertrain, which will be all-electric. GM has taken the electrification plan pretty seriously and the whole palette of new models will come in the near future. Among them, we will see the 2023 Chevy Equinox, which will combine all the benefits of electric motors at an affordable price. Of course, novelties will come in many other aspects as well, starting from a more attractive interior design, new styling etc.

2023 Chevy Equinox Redesign

This redesign will bring radical changes and as we already mentioned, the 2023 Chevy Equinox will come with a completely new character, with an all-electric powertrain. Therefore, it won’t be based on the familiar D platform anymore, but rather on the new Ultium platform. This architecture is designed for electric cars on purpose and what’s particularly interesting about it is that it’s highly modular and scalable. In other words, it will underpin the whole electric lineup, including both models like GMC Hummer EV and small crossovers like the Equinox.

The new platform supports a variety of battery and drivetrain configurations, so there are many options for the 2023 Chevy Equinox on the table as well. We presume that the company will offer both FWD and AWD variants, but we will talk more about that in the “powertrain” section.

Exterior

When it comes to the exterior design, it’s still early to talk about details. Still, we’ve seen a couple of rendering photos, which show a new styling approach, characterized by a pretty futuristic aesthetical approach, highlighted by sharp lines, super-narrow lighting areas etc.

We don’t know the exact size of the new 2023 Chevy Equinox, but we presume it won’t be significantly different compared to the current generation. In other words, it should remain a typical compact crossover. For reference, the current model is good for about 107.3 inches in wheelbase and 183 inches in total length.

Interior

Interior quality is probably the biggest drawback of the current generation. Simply, it doesn’t look particularly attractive from the inside, while most of the areas are wrapped with plastics and other cheap materials. From what we can see on the rendering photos, the new model will look way better in this aspect. The first thing you’ll notice is the dashboard design, which is highlighted by a couple of screens – a 17.0-inch infotainment screen and an 11.0-inch instrument cluster. The rest of the dash is characterized by classic design solutions, while we definitely like that renders show a couple of physical controls as well.

As we already mentioned, the new generation probably won’t feature a much different size compared to the previous model. Still, keep in mind that electric cars generally have more space on the inside, due to the fact that there is no engine at the front, while the battery is positioned under the floor. So, we might see a little bit more legroom than before, as well as a little bit more generous cargo area.

2023 Chevy Equinox Powertrain

Details about the powertrain are still unavailable. However, we know for sure that the new 2023 Chevy Equinox will be based on GM’s new Ultium technology, which supports battery packs in a range from 50 to 200 kilowatts. Furthermore, it supports different electric motors and configurations, between 235 and 1.000 horsepower.

Of course, there is always room for new things in terms of new electric motors and setups. We presume that the new Equinox will be offered in different versions regarding power and drivetrain. The most basic versions would come with front-wheel drive, while the more expensive models would be available in AWD configurations as well.

2023 Chevy Equinox Release Date and Price

At this point, we are still waiting for the officials to hear something about the launch date but we presume that the next-generation Equinox will hit the market sometime in the next year. When it comes to the price, the company claims a starting price of around 30.000 dollars, which would make it one of the most affordable EVs on the market. Potential rivals are models like Tesla Model Y, Mustang Mach-E etc.
