2022 Toyota RAV4 Preview: No Changes Expected

0

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 will represent the fourth production year of the current generation and despite that many experts expected to see a mid-cycle update, it won’t happen. From what can we hear, the next year’s model will come without more notable changes. It will continue with familiar design characteristics, though it’s always possible to see minor updates, such as new color options, new wheels, standard features etc.

You may count on a familiar layout. This SUV has so many things to offer, starting from three pretty impressive powertrain options. It also features a spacious and comfortable cabin, while the list of standard safety and driver-assistance features is traditionally long. The cargo area is also pretty comfortable, while the only major complaint goes to the slightly outdated infotainment system.

Considering that there are no bigger changes to come for the next year, we presume that the new model will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of 2021.

2022 Toyota RAV4 Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2022 Toyota RAV4 will represent the fourth production year of the current generation. This SUV hasn’t changed too much since the initial launch, which was in late 2018. It is based on a familiar TNGA platform, which ensures notably better driving characteristics compared to the previous generation. Driving dynamics and handling are much better, thanks to the lower center of gravity. At this same time, the ride is really comfortable.

Visually, the next year could bring a couple of new color options to the table. Other than that, the styling will remain untouched. Keep in mind that there are few differences between gasoline, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, especially in terms of the front bumper and front fascia. Still, these differences are minor and hardly notable at the first sight. Also, keep in mind that the 2022 RAV4 could come with some visual packages in the offer as well.

Interior

The inside of the 2022 Toyota RAV4 won’t change either. You may count on the same cabin layout, which looks good in many aspects. The dashboard design still looks fresh, while the materials and build quality are at a pretty high level as well. As we already mentioned, the biggest drawback is the infotainment screen, which doesn’t feature particularly impressive graphics, nor the interface is particularly fast.

On the other side, there is nothing to complain about, regarding the interior room. Both rows are very generous with space and accommodate adults with ease. Also, the driving position is excellent, while the visibility is great in all directions.

The cargo area is also pretty generous with space. You may count on up to 37.6 cubic feet behind the second row and nearly 70 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.

Features

Of course, the next year’s model could bring novelties in terms of standard equipment. However, we don’t believe that changes could be too big. So, base models should come standard with goodies like a 7-inch touch screen, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, a USB port, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and a six-speaker stereo. Higher trim levels should offer upgrades like an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, wireless device charging, an 11-speaker JBL sound system, and four additional USB ports.

The same thing is with safety features. Traditionally, Toyota is pretty generous in this aspect and base models already come standard with goodies like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, road sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and lane trace assist. Additionally, you can get upgrades like blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a surround-view parking camera system.

2022 Toyota RAV4 Engines

We expect that the 2022 Toyota RAV4 will continue in three familiar versions. Base models will continue with a well-known 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, which features a max output of 203 horsepower. It comes in pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission and ensures pretty good overall performance. The fuel economy goes around 28 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. Those are some of the highest ratings in the class.

For even better fuel economy, you can pick a hybrid version, which is based on the same engine. It gets help from two electric motors, for a combined output of 220 horsepower. The fuel economy goes around 41 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway.

Finally, there is the plug-in hybrid, with a total output of 302 horsepower. This model offers pretty impressive performance, considering that the 0-60 time goes just around 5.7 seconds. Also, you may count on 42 miles of the all-electric range.
