2022 Nissan Xterra Comeback, Price, USA, Interior

0

Once upon a time, Nissan had a complete lineup of body-on-frame SUVs in the offer. Meanwhile, things have changed significantly and most of these nameplates were discontinue or turned into crossovers. As a result, the Armada is the only BoF SUV Nissan has in offer in North America. Fortunately, things could change soon, as the latest reports suggest one big comeback, in the form of 2022 Nissan Xterra.

Things on the market are significantly different today compared to what was just a couple of years ago. Not so long ago, many believed that BoF SUVs are dead and that crossovers will completely take over the market. However, the huge number of a crossover made many drivers want a genuine SUV, especially among off-road enthusiasts, which is a niche that is becoming bigger and bigger. That’s why we are seeing many comebacks, such as the new Bronco, while models like 4Runner and Wrangler are becoming hugely popular these days. Logically, Nissan wants a piece of cake, so bringing back the 2022 Nissan Xterra would definitely be the right move.

At this point, we are still waiting for the official confirmation. Therefore, take the following paragraphs with a reserve, as there are based mainly on rumors.

2022 Nissan Xterra Design

Of course, the first about the 2022 Nissan Xterra that comes to mind is the platform. This would definitely be a genuine BoF SUV and things are relatively easy to predict, especially when it comes to mechanics. Just like the previous generation, the new model would also come based on the Frontier. The popular mid-size pickup truck is finally coming completely redesigned, after more than 15 years.

Therefore, the new Xterra will certainly feature a modern design, even though we are talking about the good-old F-Alpha platform. Simply, this architecture has undergone significant updates and now is characterized by the use of lightweight materials, advanced suspension and many other design solutions that have a big impact on ride quality and overall performance.

Exterior

When it comes to the exterior design, we expect to see a typical mid-size SUV. This would mean around 112-115 inches in wheelbase, which would be enough to accommodate three rows of seats without making the wheelbase too long and sacrificing off-road potential. Speaking of the off-roading, there is no doubt that Nissan will offer the Pro-4X version as well, which will come with significant chassis and suspension upgrades, which would make it capable of competing with models like Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro, Wrangler Rubicon etc.

Styling

This aspect of the 2022 Nissan Xterra is relatively easy to predict. We presume that the new SUV would have a lot of things in common with the new Frontier. Moreover, the front end should look identical. On the other side, the rest of the body would come in a typical SUV manner, offering boxy lines, raised bumpers for better approach and departure angles etc.

Interior

Once again, we expect that the new SUV will resemble the new Frontier, at least when it comes to the dashboard design. This means that things probably won’t look too fancy. The cabin would rather be practical than stylish. We count on a relatively simplistic dash design and mostly durable materials. Still, that doesn’t mean that the new Xterra would lack modern features, both in terms of tech goodies and advanced safety systems.

When it comes to seating capacity, we count on three rows of seats, at least as an option. Naturally, the third row probably won’t be too generous with space, but shouldn’t be too tight either. The cargo area should also be quite generous with space.

2022 Nissan Xterra Engine

No surprises are expected under the hood. Nissan has already presented the new engine for the Frontier and we have no doubt that the same unit would find the place under the hood of the 2022 Nissan Xterra as well. Of course, we are talking about a new 3.8-liter V6, which features a max output of 310 horsepower. For comparison, that’s more power than you get from the 4Runner and Wrangler, so that could be one of Nissan’s advantages as well.

The engine comes in pair with a new 9-speed automatic transmission, which does a decent job but can sometimes haunt for the right gear. We hope Nissan could fix this before the launch. When it comes to fuel economy, the Frontier with this engine returns around 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, so we may expect something similar from the new SUV.

2022 Nissan Xterra Release Date and Price

At this point, the 2022 Nissan Xterra still waits for the official confirmation, so it’s hard to estimate the potential launch date. Still, some reports suggest we could see it already in the first half of next year. If it arrives, we presume that base versions would go around 35.000 dollars, roughly.
