Mitsubishi’s player in the most competitive segment of the automotive industry has just received a massive update. It comes with loads of novelties, in order to be seen as a more competent player in the segment that’s dominated by models like Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V and Nissan Rogue. For this occasion, Mitsubishi prepared a number of interesting changes, particularly in terms of aesthetics. The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross comes with loads of interesting exterior changes, as well as nice interior updates. Unfortunately, the powertrain remains the same.

The company also did a few tweaks to the suspension but the overall impression is pretty similar to the previous version. So, you may count on familiar design characteristics, on a model that still has a couple of good things to offer. Of course, its bold styling definitely stands out, but we also like things comfortable seats, a smooth infotainment system and a more affordable price compared to competitors.

2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross comes with loads of updates. This is a typical mid-cycle update and Mitsubishi engineers did a lot of things to make this compact crossover better. First of all, there is the new styling. You can easily notice revisions on both ends of the vehicle. The front end comes with new headlights, a revised grille, an even sharper bumper, new fog lights and other novelties. On the rear end, you can notice a significantly changed tailgate design, which drops that old-Civic-like split rear glass and comes with a more conventional design. Of course, that’s much better for visibility, but we also say it looks better.

Besides numerous styling updates, Mitsubishi also did a couple of mechanical updates. This particularly refers to the suspension setup, which has been tweaked in order to provide a better driving experience. The improvement is notable, but we still can’t say that the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is particularly engaging. On the other side, those who prefer a smooth and relaxed ride will find this crossover more than satisfying.

Interior

The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross comes with nice interior updates as well. Of course, the center stack is the first thing you will notice. There is a new infotainment screen, which features a tablet-like layout and sits higher and closer to the driver. Furthermore, you can also notice a few revisions in terms of buttons. This particularly refers to the new, more functional volume and climate controls.

On the other side, the overall layout remains pretty similar to the pre-facelifted version. The cabin looks nice, but still lags behind key competitors in terms of quality. On the other hand, the seats are very comfortable and supportive. Both rows are generous with space and accommodate adults with ease.

When it comes to cargo volume, you may count on about 23.4 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 50.1 cubic feet of the total volume. That’s a below-average rating for the class.

Features

When it comes to standard equipment, this crossover stands pretty well.  All models come standard with goodies like automatic climate control, a 7-inch touch screen, a four-speaker stereo, HD Radio, a USB port, and Bluetooth. Additionally, you can get goodies like an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, a six- or eight-speaker audio system, satellite radio, additional USB ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, and push-button start.

In terms of safety, all models come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Additionally, there are upgrades like a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view parking camera system, blind spot monitoring, lane change assist, rear parking sensors, and rear cross traffic alert.

2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Engine

Unfortunately, this update hasn’t brought any changes under the hood. The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross continues with a familiar 1.5-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 152 horsepower. The power is sent to wheels via CVT gearbox and the overall performance isn’t particularly great. Most rivals come with more powerful engines and offer a peppier ride. Still, we believe this is enough power for daily commuting.

When it comes to fuel economy, you may count on about 26 mpg in the city and 29 mpg, which are good numbers of the class. Of course, AWD versions are slightly thirstier and return around 25 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Price

The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is already available on the market and it starts at around 24.000 dollars. That makes it more affordable compared to most competitors. Speaking of the competition, some of the key competitors in the class are models like Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue and Honda CR-V. However, the Eclipse Cross is light years away in terms of popularity. We hope things will get better with the refreshed model.
