2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS Review, Redesigin, Release date, Price

0

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS will represent the third production year of the current generation. Therefore, we are pretty sure that there won’t be too many changes compared to the current model year. Simply, it’s still early for a mid-cycle refresh, while the recent update for the second production year has brought all the novelties we expected, including some pretty exclusive versions. Therefore, the best we could see for the next year are minor updates, such as new color options and a couple of additions to the list of standard equipment.

On the other hand, the overall layout will certainly remain the same. We are about to see a familiar layout, which has so many great things to offer. We like the interior quality, as well as a long list of tech goodies. Also, the ride is extremely comfortable, while the engine lineup includes some pretty impressive units.

As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS Redesign

The overall design will certainly remain the same, as we already mentioned. The last redesign has brought a lot of novelties and the current model is still pretty fresh. Compared to the previous, X166 model, the new one offers more interior room and an even more refined drive. Interestingly, the air suspension setup from the previous generation carried over, with minor tweaks only, so the comfort is at an even higher level.

Visually, there is nothing special we could talk about. Although a flagship model, the GLS doesn’t stand out from other models in the lineup. It sticks to the same design language and the only difference is that it comes i a bigger package compared to other models in the lineup. Therefore, we don’t expect that the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS could bring anything more than a couple of new color options in the offer.

Interior

The same thing is with the interior design. We count on the same layout, which has so many great things to offer. The dashboard looks attractive and more importantly, the whole cabin features pretty impressive build quality and high-end materials. Add to these incredible tech goodies and you get one of the nicest cabins in the class.

Of course, the comfort is on a super-high level. The front seats are massive and supportive, some of the best in the class, while the seating position is excellent. The second row is as comfortable and accommodates adults with ease. On the other hand, the third row is a little bit tighter, though it still offers enough comfort for adult passengers.

When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on about 17.4 cubic feet of space with all of its seats up, and up to  48.7 cubic feet behind the second row. The total cargo volume goes around 84.7 cubic feet. Those are pretty decent numbers for the class.

Features

We might see a couple of additions on the list of standard equipment for the next year but most of the things should remain the same. For reference, the current model comes standard with goodies like quad-zone climate control, a 12.3-inch touch screen, a touchpad controller, navigation, Bluetooth, eight USB ports, a 13-speaker Burmester audio system, satellite radio, HD Radio, an in-car communication system, wireless device charging, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Additionally, you can get upgrades like five-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, the MBUX interior assistant, a 7-inch MBUX tablet for the second row, a 26-speaker Burmester audio system, second-row wireless device charging, and a Wi-Fi hot spot.

When it comes to safety, all models will come standard with driver aids like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, driver drowsiness monitoring, crosswind assist, blind spot monitoring, vehicle exit warning, a surround-view parking camera system, parallel and perpendicular park assist etc.

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS Engines

When it comes to engines, you may count on three familiar versions in the offer. Base models will continue with a 3.0-liter inline-six, which puts out around 362 horsepower. This engine will satisfy most drivers but those who look for something peppier can choose two versions equipped with a V8 engine. In both cases, we are talking about the well-known 4.0-liter unit, which puts out either 483 or 603 horsepower. The latter is reserved for the AMG GLS 63 model.

All models come in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission. When it comes to fuel economy, the six-cylinder engine returns around 20 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS Release Date and Price

We expect to see 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS sometime late in the year, with a starting price of around 77.000 dollars. The competition in the segment is pretty tough. Some of the key rivals are models like BMW X7, Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator etc.
