2022 Lexus GX 460 Review, Redesign, Luxury, Interior, Upgrades

0

The GX is one of several models from Toyota that’s waiting its turn for a full redesign. The current generation has been around for nearly 13 years and while it looks outdated in many aspects, it still attracts a lot of buyers. That’s mainly because of its excellent off-road capabilities, but this SUV is also stylish and luxurious. Considering that other models like Tundra and LX are priorities at the moment, we presume that the 2022 Lexus GX 460 will come without more important changes.

The next year won’t bring any particular change for this SUV. Therefore, we may count on familiar design characteristics, which are mostly about excellent off-road capabilities, a long list of standard equipment and traditionally world-class reliability ratings. However, this model also comes with a couple of drawbacks, due to its age. The cabin looks old, just like the infotainment system.

Considering that bigger changes probably won’t happen, the last quarter of the year is when we expect to see this model in showrooms.

2022 Lexus GX 460 Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, this SUV will have to wait for a little bit more to get a full redesign. Meanwhile, the 2022 Lexus GX 460 will continue in the same way, featuring design characteristics that haven’t changed for more than a decade. Of course, we saw a couple of updates during this long production cycle. So, the next year will bring styling that looks pretty attractive, considering that it’s based on the brand’s latest design language.

Still, most buyers choose this SUV not because of its look, but because of its off-road performance. This model is capable of dealing with any kind of terrain, thanks to high ground clearance, standard 4WD system and upgrades like a transmission cooler, crawl control, and a Multi-Terrain Monitor and Multi-Terrain Select, which has driving modes for rocks, mud, and sand.

Interior

The interior design is one of the weakest spots of the current model. Compared to younger rivals, it looks outdated but that doesn’t mean that the overall quality is bad. Simply, the aesthetics are the thing that bothers us. On the other hand, the materials and build quality are great, like in any other Lexus. Synthetic upholstery is standard, as well as a 10-way adjustable driver’s seat. Also, you can get upgrades like wood and leather-trimmed heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row outboard seats, semi-aniline leather trim, and power-reclining and folding third-row seats are available.

When it comes to the passenger space, this SUV accommodates up to 7 people. The first two rows are quite comfortable and spacious but on the other hand, the third row is cramped. Also, the cargo space could be better. It goes around 11.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the third row up, 46.7 cubic feet with the third row folded, and 64.7 cubic feet of the total volume.

Features

Once again, no bigger changes are expected. We presume that most of the things will remain the same as in the current model, which comes standard with goodies like dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch touch screen, a nine-speaker stereo, Amazon Alexa capability, voice command, Bluetooth, four USB ports, and HD Radio. Additionally, you can get goodies like navigation, tri-zone climate control, 17-speaker audio system etc.

The same story is with safety features. The current model is already pretty good in this aspect, as it comes standard with things like a rearview camera, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, and blind spot monitoring. You can pay extra for goodies like front and rear parking sensors, LED fog lights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a surround-view parking camera system.

2022 Lexus GX 460 Engine

As the name says, the 2022 Lexus GX 460 will continue with a good-old 4.6-liter V8 engine, which features a max output of 301 horsepower and 329 pound-feet of torque. It’s not the most powerful, nor the most efficient engine around, but it’s extremely durable and reliable. Also, it is always great to hear a good-old V8 sound note. The engine comes coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to all wheels.

As we’ve just mentioned, fuel economy is one of the weakest points of the GX 460. This SUV returns around 15 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. When properly equipped, this SUV can tow up to 6.500 pounds.

2022 Lexus GX 460 Release Date and Price

The 2022 Lexus GX 460 will most likely come without any notable update. So, we are pretty sure that the launch date will be scheduled for the end of 2021. We don’t expect bigger price changes either. The current model starts at around 54.000 dollars, while the most expensive versions can go up to 65.000 dollars or more.
