2022 Kia Sportage Nightfall Edition, News, Colors, Release date, Interior

It’s no secret that the new generation of Kia’s compact crossover is on the way. However, the latest reports suggest that North American drivers will have to wait one more year to see it. So, the 2022 Kia Sportage will come without more important changes to the U.S. market. It will continue with a familiar design, though we are about to see some shuffles in terms of standard and available equipment.

On the other hand, the overall layout will remain the same. We are about to see a familiar layout, which provides a lot of good things. Despite the age, the current generation still has a few things to offer, starting from a nice interior, lots of standard equipment and decent driving experience. On the other hand, we don’t like its small cargo area, while the fuel economy could be better.

As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2022 Kia Sportage will hit the market sometime late in the year.

2022 Kia Sportage Redesign

The 2022 Kia Sportage will represent the final production year of the current generation. Therefore, we have no doubt that most things will remain the same as in the current model. This particularly refers to the base design, which won’t change at all. The next year’s model will continue with the suspension setup that provides a solid level of comfort but keeps this crossover fun to drive as well. Visually, we don’t expect to see any particular changes, not even in terms of color options.

The same thing goes for interior design. The 2022 Kia Sportage will continue with the same cabin, which looks really nice, despite the age. The materials are good, while the build quality is decent as well. Also, there are two rows of seats, spacious enough to accommodate adult passengers with ease.

On the other hand, the cargo area could be bigger. There are 30.7 cubic feet behind the second row, while the total volume goes up to 60 cubic feet. That’s below-average for the class.

Trim Levels and Features

The only notable changes we are about to see for the next year are those in terms of trim level organization. The base models will continue with the EX badge, but the Value package will be added to the list of standard equipment. This package includes a lot of styling details, such as dark 18-inch wheels, heated front seats, passive keyless entry and push-button start, and more.

The Nightfall Edition replaces the S trim level, while the EX comes with more standard equipment, which will include Technology Package. Finally, there is the SX Turbo trim, with engine upgrades and more standard equipment.

2022 Kia Sportage Engines

The engine lineup will remain the same. So, base versions will continue with a good-old 2.4-liter inline-four, which puts out around 181 horsepower. That’s not too much power but seems enough to satisfy most drivers. Those who prefer something peppier can opt for the available turbo-four, which delivers 237 horsepower. However, keep in mind that this engine is available only in the range-topping SX Turbo trim level.

When it comes to fuel economy, the base engine returns around 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. While that’s far from bad, most rivals are more efficient. The turbo-four returns around 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. Rivals like Mazda CX-5 are way more efficient.

When it comes to transmission, both engines come in pair with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, which does a pretty decent job.

2022 Kia Sportage Release Date and Price

We expect to see 2022 Kia Sportage sometime in the second half of the year, but the officials are still quiet about a more precise date. When it comes to the price, base versions should go around 25.000 dollars.

New Generation on the Way

The 2022 Kia Sportage will represent the final production year of the current generation and the new model will come right after. Moreover, the new generation is ready for most abroad markets and it will come already for the 2022 model year. Therefore, we know what to expect from it once it arrives in North America.

Once again, this model will share most of its parts with the Tucson (new one) and once again, it will come with pretty radical aesthetical changes. The new styling will be characterized by a very futuristic look, which probably won’t be a dividing point, as Kia’s buyers have never been too conservative. The interior will be completely new and from what we can see, it will look way more upscale. It will be highlighted by two massive screens, as well as with lots of elegant lines. Of course, we count on improvements in materials and build quality as well.

When it comes to powertrain, the exact specs for the U.S. model are yet to be announced. Still, we have no doubt that, besides gasoline engines, hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants will be offered too.
