The segment of compact crossovers is vastly important for virtually every carmaker and Hyundai is no exception. That’s why the 2022 Hyundai Tucson has already arrived, completely redesigned, with novelties in every aspect. The new generation is already on sale and it brings a completely new design, highlighter with a futuristic appearance. However, that’s not the only major novelty that has arrived with this overhaul. We saw improvements and novelties in every aspect and there is no doubt that this crossover will once again be among best-sellers in the class.

The reasons why people like the new model are numerous. We’ve already mentioned the new look, which may not be everyone’s cup of tea. On the other side, the things that undoubtedly great are mechanics and interior design. There are various powertrain options, which include plenty of electrification. Also, the new cabin looks really amazing. Not only that it comes with plenty of tech features and impressive materials, but also offers plenty of space. The last but not least, all these things come at a pretty attractive asking price.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Redesign

This redesign brings a lot of novelties and there is no doubt that the new styling is the thing that everyone noticed first. Compared to the previous model, which was designed in a pretty conservative manner, the new model is a completely opposite story. It features a lot of futuristic details, starting from the new three-dimensional grille with a unique “wing shape” and even more unique patter. Furthermore, the whole sheet metal is crafted in such an impressive way, something we’ve never seen from Hyundai before.

Besides new aesthetics, there is a completely new chassis. The new model is bigger than before, but also lighter. Of course, all this has a positive impact on the ride quality and the first thing we’ve noticed is more engaging handling. However, the suspension setup is still on the comfort side, so this model is more about comfort than sporty ride.

Interior

Despite that the new styling is pretty radical, the interior is actually the aspect that amazed us most. First of all, it looks very mature and there is no doubt it will remain fresh for years. Furthermore, materials are mostly soft to the touch, while the build quality is very good, pretty much on par with models like VW Tiguan. Also, there is a pretty impressive amount of tech goodies, including a couple of screens. Both the instrument cluster and infotainment screen come in a tablet-like manner, which looks really nice. Base models will feature an 8.8-inch infotainment screen, while a bigger 10.3-inch unit will be optional.

Another thing we like about this model is the amount of space. With 108.5 inches in wheelbase, it’s no wonder that both rows accommodate adults in such a comfortable manner. The cargo area is as impressive. You may count on 38.7 cubic feet behind the second row and 74.8 cubic feet of the total volume, which puts this model among class leaders.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Engines

At this point, there are two powertrain options on the offer. Base models come with a familiar 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which is good for about 187 horsepower. That’s enough for decent driving dynamics and it is definitely something that can satisfy most drivers. Also, the fuel economy goes around 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, which is quite good for the segment. The engine comes in pair with an 8-speed automatic, which does a pretty good job as well.

Also, there is a hybrid version of the SUV. It combines a familiar 1.6-liter turbo-four engine, which comes in pair with a 60-hp electric motor, for a total output of 221 horsepower. Of course, driving dynamics are very good, while we also like a pretty decent fuel economy, which goes around 34 mpg combined.

Plug-In Hybrid On the Way

Soon, there will be another powertrain option in the offer for the 2022 Hyundai Tucson. We are talking about another electrified version, this time with a plug-in hybrid setup. Once again, the system will be based on a 1.6-liter turbo-four, but it will feature a bigger 90-hp electric motor. The total output will go around 260 horsepower. Also, this model will feature a pretty big, 13.8-kWh battery pack, which will ensure an all-electric range of around 30 miles. When it comes to fuel economy, it should go around 33 mpg combined.
