2022 Honda CR-V Redesign, Hybrid, Release date, Hybrid, Colors

Even during the pandemic year of 2020, Honda managed to sell way over 330.000 units of its compact crossover in North America. So, it’s not hard to conclude the importance of this model for the Japanese manufacturer. The current generation has been around since 2016. Five years later, it is still among the leaders in the class. That’s no wonder, considering that it offers a tremendous amount of passenger and cargo space, excellent powertrain, good fuel economy, upscale cabin etc. So, what can we expect from the 2022 Honda CR-V?

Even though the current model is still more than competitive, it will receive a complete makeover. We are about to see a full redesign, which should make this crossover even better. Considering that the current model is still pretty impressive, we presume that Honda engineers won’t make any radical changes. Instead, we are about to see an evolution of the current design, whether it’s about mechanics or aesthetics.

2022 Honda CR-V Redesign

As we already mentioned, it’s hard to believe that Honda could bring any more radical changes with this redesign. We will rather see an evolution of the current design, just like with the upcoming next-generation Civic. Moreover, the two models will share a lot of things, particularly the platform. Of course, the CR-V will come with its own suspension setup, which was always characterized by a great balance between comfort and engaging handling.

In terms of the size, we don’t expect a significant increase. However, some sources speculate about the stretched version, with three rows of seats. We presume this version will be reserved for certain markets, such as China. Keep in mind that the current generation comes with three rows in Europe, though it features the same wheelbase as the standard model.

Exterior Design

The testing model of the new 2022 Honda CR-V has been spotted. At this point, it still wears a complete camouflage, so we can’t talk about details. However, some things are pretty obvious, despite the cover. For example, we can easily see that the test mule features a notably longer hood and front overhang, which promises a more upscale look. The rest of the body features a quite similar shape to the current generation, which promises plenty of space and a high level of practicality.

We can even find various rendering photos on the network and as you may presume, most dramatic changes are at the front. There we can find a face that has a lot of similarities with the recently presented Honda SUV e. However, we presume that the new CR-V will come with a little bit more conservative approach, with a face that takes more inspiration from models like Accord. We expect that the new model will take off the cover in the near future.

Interior

Even though Honda still tries to keep the cabin away from photographers, a couple of spy shots clearly show what is happening on the inside. This particularly refers to the dashboard, which will most likely feature the same or similar design as the new Civic. We know that because we can see the same tablet-like infotainment screen, which seems decently sized.

Of course, we have no doubt that the new 2022 Honda CR-V will also be spacious and practical. That has always been one of the model’s strongest points. We’ve already talked about the stretched version, which would come with three rows of seats and a capacity for seven. However, we aren’t 100% sure if this version will come to North America or not.

What we really expect to see are improvements in terms of the infotainment system. The current unit isn’t far away from being catastrophic, considering that it features not particularly great graphics and lacks some essential functions. At the same time, it is quite complicated to use.

2022 Honda CR-V Engines

We’ve already mentioned a couple of times that Honda engineers won’t risk too much with this engine. Therefore, the powertrain should remain pretty much the same. The current model comes with a 1.5-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 190 horsepower. It comes in pair with a CVT gearbox and offers pretty impressive driving dynamics. At the same time, fuel economy is excellent.

Of course, we count on a hybrid version as well. The current model uses the same system as the Accord, with 212 horsepower. We presume that the new 2022 Honda CR-V could come with improvements in terms of power, battery capacity, fuel economy etc. More details will be known soon.

2022 Honda CR-V Release Date and Price

If we can trust the latest reports, the 2022 Honda CR-V will hit the market by the end of the year. We don’t expect to see a bigger price increase compared to the current generation, which starts at around 26.000 dollars. Even though this is the second best-selling compact crossover in the world, behind RAV4, the competition is getting stronger every year. Some of the potential rivals are models like VW Tiguan, Nissan Rogue, Chevy Equinox etc.
