2022 GMC Sierra Preview: Interior, Release date, Price, AT4

Although the initial plan was to see a mid-cycle update in the next year, it looks like that won’t happen. According to the latest reports, this refresh has been delayed and the 2022 GMC Sierra will most likely continue in the same way, with familiar design characteristics and features. Of course, smaller updates are always possible. We could see some tweaks in terms of standard equipment and similar things.

On the other side, the overall layout will remain the same. You may count on familiar design characteristics and benefits. This pickup truck has a lot of good things to offer, starting from a smooth ride, spacious and comfortable cabin, capable engines etc. However, it comes with a few drawbacks as well. The interior looks less upscale compared to rivals, while the towing capacity could be better.

Considering that the mid-cycle update has been delayed and that the 2022 GMC Sierra will bring no significant changes, we are pretty sure it won’t hit the market before the last quarter of the year.

2022 GMC Sierra Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2022 GMC Sierra is about to carry on the same way. This means you may count on the same design characteristics that were introduced in 2019. The current generation still looks fresh and we don’t find styling changes necessary. Furthermore, keep in mind a couple of pretty unique variants of the truck, such as the well-known Denali trim and off-road-oriented AT4. Both models come with exclusive styling details and look very attractive.

In terms of mechanics, all models offer a pretty smooth ride, while many of them are also very capable. This particularly refers to the AT4 model, which features some pretty serious off-road hardware. It includes things like hill descent control, front and rear skid plates, a two-speed transfer case, a locking rear differential, and a traction select system. Of course, 4WD is standard on this model.

Interior

This is probably the weakest point of the current generation and the reason why so many people eagerly wait for the update. The last redesign was a lot about aesthetics and mechanics but didn’t bring any particular interior change. Moreover, the dashboard looks pretty much the same as in the previous generation. Most rivals look more attractive from the inside and feature nicer materials. Also, the ergonomics could be better.

On the other hand, there is nothing to complain about regarding comfort. The suspension setup is good, while the cabin offers plenty of space, no matter which version you choose.

Of course, the Denali trim will continue with a couple of exclusive details, as well as with nicer materials, more standard equipment and similar upgrades.

Features

There’s always a chance to see a couple of upgrades in this aspect. However, we don’t expect that the list of standard equipment will change too much compared to the current model. So, base versions should come with goodies like a 7-inch touch screen, a six-speaker audio system (two speakers in Regular Cab models), Bluetooth, a USB port, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Higher trim levels will offer much more, including things like wireless device charging, an 8-inch touch screen, a seven-speaker Bose audio system, satellite radio, HD Radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, additional USB ports, voice recognition, navigation, sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, remote start, and two 120-volt household-style power outlets.

The same thing is with safety features. A rearview camera is practically the only standard feature at the moment, while you can get loads of upgrades. Some of the highlights are things like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, lane change alert, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, a surround-view parking camera system, a rear camera mirror, and a head-up display.

2022 GMC Sierra Engine

We have no doubt that base models will continue with a good-old 4.3-liter V6, which puts out around 285 horsepower. Of course, there is also a newer and more efficient 2.7-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque.

However, we think that the real deal starts with V8 engines. The first one on the offer is a 5.3-liter V8, which puts out around 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. A more powerful option is a well-known 6.2-liter engine, which is good for about 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

Finally, there is a version with a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. This engine has an output of 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

2022 GMC Sierra Release Date and Price

Considering that the mid-cycle refresh has been delayed and that the 2022 GMC Sierra will feature no bigger changes, we presume that the launch date will be scheduled for the end of 2021. Base models should go around 30.000 dollars. Some of the key competitors are Toyota Tundra, Nissan Titan, Ram 1500 etc.
