With the current generation being released less than two years ago, we can say that the company’s famous coupe crossover still has a few more years before updates. Therefore, the 2022 BMW X6 should be a typical carryover model, which could come with typical yearly updates only. Those could only be minimal updates in terms of new standard features and some shuffling between optional packages. Other than that, the next year will bring no significant changes.
That said, we may conclude that the next year will bring a familiar layout, which has been introduced for the 2020 model year. The current generation is still pretty fresh and has a lot of good things to offer, starting from excellent performances, potent engine options, luxurious cabin and lots of standard and available equipment. Of course, a coupe layout brings a few obvious drawbacks, particularly in terms of practicality. Considering that there are no significant changes to come, the 2022 BMW X6 should hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2022 BMW X6 Redesign
The X6 has always been closely related to its more conventional sibling, the X5. Of course, the current generation is no exception and also relies on a new CLAR platform, which has brought obvious improvements in terms of ride quality and technologies. The two models share most of the styling as well, with the exception of the rear end. There, you can see X6’s trademark, a sloping roof that provides that coupe-like appearance. While the X5 is about to get a facelift for the next year, this one will remain in the current form for some more time.
This means that nothing special is about to happen in the 2022 BMW X6. Naturally, there is always a chance for smaller updates, such as new color options. However, even that doesn’t sound particularly like in this case.
Once again, there is no room for bigger changes. The current generation is still pretty fresh and we have no doubt that the cabin will keep the current layout for a while. That’s shouldn’t be taken as a bad thing at all. Moreover, this crossover features a high-end cabin, which looks stylish and features excellent quality. The materials are really fine, which the build quality is really amazing. Also, the long list of standard and available tech goodies makes everything look even more upscale.
On the other side, the coupe layout is an obvious drawback in terms of practicality. Naturally, the cargo area suffers the most. You may count on just 27.4 cubic feet of cargo space with its rear seats upright and 59.6 cubic feet, which is way too low for some more serious hauling. For the same reason, the rearward visibility isn’t great and less-experienced drivers will probably struggle with reversing.
As we already mentioned at the beginning of this article, the best 2022 BMW X6 could bring are novelties in terms of standard equipment. Some shuffling between packages is also possible. However, most of the things will remain the same as in the current model. For reference, the current model comes with a pretty long list of standard features. Some of the highlights are things like the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, HD Radio, satellite radio, 10 speakers, Bluetooth, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, a hands-free power liftgate, and a panoramic moonroof.
Naturally, there is more to get in more expensive versions. For example, there are things like quad-zone climate control, remote start, wireless device charging, a Wi-Fi hot spot, hand gesture recognition, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon stereo, and a 20-speaker Bowers & Wilkins stereo. We presume some of these could become part of the standard equipment next year.
2022 BMW X6 Engines
We don’t expect surprises under the hood. Base models should carry on with a well-known 3.0-liter turbo-inline six, which puts out around 335 horsepower. While it has the most power to satisfy most drivers, the Bavarian carmaker also offers three variants of a bigger 4.4-liter V8. The first one is called M50i and delivers around 523 horsepower. The genuine M version is good for about 591 horsepower. Finally, you can get the Competition package, which raises the total output up to 617 horsepower.
All engines come in pair with a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission.
2022 BMW X6 Release Date and Price
As there are no significant changes to come for the next year, we presume that the 2022 BMW X6 will hit the market sometime late in the year, most likely in the last quarter of 2021. The current model starts at around 66.000 dollars and we don’t expect to see a bigger increase in the next year. Of course, German rivals will remain the key competition. We are thinking of models like Audi Q8, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe etc.
