After a couple of years in production, the current generation of the Bavarian compact crossover is about to receive an update. We are about to see a typical mid-cycle refresh, which will bring changes in different aspects. Of course, most of the changes will be in terms of aesthetics, but we are about to see novelties on the inside as well. When it comes to powertrain, the hybrid version won’t be in the offer anymore, while the M40i model will now come standard with a 48-volt mild-hybrid setup.

Despite the changes and updates, the overall layout will remain pretty much the same. We are about to see the same overall design, which has a lot of great things to offer. This well-rounded SUV is strong in so many fields. It is great to drive but also very practical and functional. We like its nimble handling and great driving dynamics, but we also like the fact that the X3 features one of the biggest cargo areas in the segment.

2022 BMW X3 Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2022 BMW X3 is about to receive a mid-cycle refresh. For that occasion, we are about to see a lot of interesting novelties, starting from a bunch of interesting styling updates. Naturally, most of the changes will come to the front end. You may count on a new, bigger grille, though it will be no way near M3 and M4 models in terms of size. Also, we will see new bumpers, new headlights and few more revisions. On the rear end, the 2022 BMW X3 will come with a new rear bumper, as well as new taillights.

Naturally, we will also see typical mid-cycle updates, such as new wheels, new color options and similar things. Another update worth mentioning is the new M Sport package, which makes base models look just like the M40i version.

On the other hand, the mechanics and the overall design are about to remain the same. This compact crossover rides on a familiar CLAR platform and offers a pretty impressive driving experience. We particularly like its engaging handling, which makes it one of the most fun-to-drive models in the class.

Interior

On the inside, the 2022 BMW X3 will come with a couple of updates as well. Without any doubt, the most notable updates will be the new 12.3-inch infotainment screen and instrument cluster. However, these units will be optional, while standard models will continue with a 10.3-inch infotainment screen and a 10.3 instrument cluster. Other than that, we will also see few changes in terms of buttons and knobs on the center console, as well as things like new interior color schemes and materials.

On the other hand, the overall cabin layout will definitely remain the same. We are about to see the same-size cabin, which comes with a couple of quite spacious and comfortable rows of seats that accommodate adult passengers with ease. Furthermore, you may count on one of the biggest cargo areas in the class. In numbers, that would be 28.7 cubic feet of cargo space with its rear seats upright and 62.7 cubic feet with those seats folded.

2022 BMW X3 Engines

When it comes to powertrain, base models will continue with a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers are enough to satisfy most drivers and we have no doubt this will remain the most popular version of the SUV. On the other hand, those who prefer something more powerful may opt for the M40i model, which uses a well-known 3.0-liter inline-six, which puts out 382 horsepower. Furthermore, there is the M-badged model, which uses the same engine but is tuned to 473 horses. This particular version needs just four seconds to hit 60 mph. All three models come with an excellent 8-speed automatic transmission.

On the other hand, the plug-in hybrid version won’t be on the offer anymore.

2022 BMW X3 Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2022 BMW X3 will hit the market this fall. The starting price shouldn’t change too much, so base versions should go around 44.000 dollars. Of course, models like Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC are the key competitors, but there are also models like Volvo XC60, Lexus NX, Acura RDX etc.
