2022 Acura RDX Review, Refresh, Release date, Price, Interior

0

The current generation of Acura’s compact crossover has been around for less than three years but updates are already on the way. The 2022 Acura RDX will receive a mid-cycle update and we count on a nice amount of novelties. Naturally, the focus will be on aesthetics and the testing model has already been spotted on the road. It wears a decent amount of camouflage, so the expectations for the next year’s models are quite high. At this point, details about interior and powertrain changes are still unavailable.

Despite the changes, the overall layout will remain the same. This means that the Japanese manufacturer will continue to deliver a crossover that offers a great balance between price and quality. This crossover is affordable but offers solid interior quality, an impressive list of standard and available equipment, a spacious cabin and excellent mechanics. Given all the updates that are about to come, we expect to see it a little bit earlier than usual, probably in the third quarter of the year.

As we already mentioned, the upcoming update will be mostly about aesthetics. The testing model has already been spotted on the road and it wears camouflage on both ends of the vehicle. The front end is covered almost entirely. So, we expect to see changes that will align this model with the recently introduced new-generation MDX. This won’t be too hard, considering that the current model already looks quite contemporary. Headlights will probably remain the same, but we expect to see a little bit sportier bumper, as well as a more prominent grille.

The rear features a covered bumper, so we may expect to see some revisions in this area. One of the rare changes that are easy to notice is the new exhaust system, which includes rectangular pipes, instead of the current, round ones. Naturally, we also expect to see typical mid-cycle refresh updates, things like new color options, wheels etc.

Interior

Unfortunately, spy photographers didn’t manage to get close enough to make interior shots. So, it’s hard to talk about interior changes at this point. However, we are pretty sure that the 2022 Acura RDX won’t bring too many novelties on the inside. Simply, the current cabin already looks pretty good. It is attractive and well built. Also, most materials are really fine, so it’s really hard to find any bigger complaint about this interior.

Of course, the overall cabin proportions will remain the same, so you may count on the same amount of passenger room as well. This means two quite generous rows of seats, which accommodate five adults with ease. Furthermore, the cargo area also offers some quite respectable numbers. You may count on about 29.5 cubic feet with the back seats up and a maximum of 58.9 cubic feet. That’s above-average for the segment.

Features

The current model already features a pretty long list of standard equipment, so we don’t expect to see significant novelties in this aspect. The list of standard features already includes tech goodies like a 10.2-inch display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri Eyes Free, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hot spot, HD Radio, satellite radio, two USB ports, a nine-speaker stereo system, voice recognition, dual-zone climate control etc. So, we should look for potential additions to the current list of options, which includes premium audio systems, head-up display, navigation etc.

Things aren’t much different with safety features. The current model already comes standard with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and automatic high-beam assist. On the other side, the list of options includes blind spot warning, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera system, rain-sensing windshield wipers etc.

2022 Acura RDX Engine

Some sources suggest that the 2022 Acura RDX could get a hybrid version. Allegedly, it would use the same system as the current-generation Accord, based on a familiar 2.0-liter gasoline engine, with a total output of 212 horsepower. However, the officials are still quiet on this matter, so take these rumors with a reserve.

On the other side, standard models will continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four. It puts out 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. This excellent engine comes in pair with a  10-speed automatic transmission, and the whole combination feels very refined. The ride is very smooth while driving dynamics are impressive as well. Fuel economy goes around 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. That’s about average for the class.

2022 Acura RDX Release Date and Price

Given the mid-cycle refresh, the 2022 Acura RDX is about to hit the market a little bit earlier than usual but still within the second half of the year. When it comes to the price, the current model starts at around 39.000 horsepower and we don’t expect a bigger increase. Key competitors are models like BMW X3, Volvo XC60, Infiniti QX50 etc.
