The current car market is all about crossover and if you look at Mazda’s naming policy, there is a huge gap in the lineup. According to the latest reports, that gap will finally be filled up with the new 2021 Mazda CX-7, which is about to come back after eight years. At this point, this crossover is just a rumor, but a rumor that makes perfect sense. Therefore, we believe the new model will actually happen pretty soon.
It’s not hard to conclude that the 2021 Mazda CX-7 will be a mid-size crossover, positioned between CX-5 and CX-9 models. The two models perfect fit segments they belong, so this model would belong to a sub-segment, that is full of mid-size crossovers that aren’t typical family haulers. These models are more about performance and overall driving experience and that is the aspect where Mazda traditionally shines. Therefore, everything seems pretty clear in the case of this model.
2021 Mazda CX-7 Redesign
Naturally, the first thing that comes to mind about 2021 Mazda CX-7 is its size and position in the company’s lineup. Obviously, it will be slotted between the current compact and mid-size crossovers, CX-5 and CX-9, respectively. Despite it’s still early for details, it’s not hard to make some rough estimations in terms of the size. If you look at the measurements of the two aforementioned crossovers, there is plenty of space for the new model to put in between. On one side, the CX-5 features around 106.2 inches in wheelbase, while the CX-9 is good for about 115.2 inches. So, the new 2021 Mazda CX-7 should be good for about 110-111 inches between the axles. For comparison, the previous CX-7 features a little bit more than 108 inches in wheelbase.
Of course, we count on lots of new design solutions and technologies in the new model. Naturally, the first thing that comes to mind would be the latest version of the company’s famous SkyActive platform and we have no doubt that the company would put the focus on handling and driving dynamics, which have always been a trademark of this model.
Aesthetics have always player an important role in Mazda’s philosopy and that’s the case with the current lineup, which looks better than ever. Therefore, we have no doubt that the 2021 Mazda CX-7 styling will be excellent, definitely one of the model’s strongest points. The first thing that comes to mind it Koeru concept, a crossover that has been presented a couple of years ago. We presume that the 2021 Mazda CX-7 would come with the same coupe like appraoch, with sloping roof and all other things that shaped this sub-segment. At the same time, we expecte a little bit different front end, based on the company’s latest design language, which debuted with models like Mazda3 and CX-30.
The interior quality is one of the aspects where Mazda models stand out. Compared to most rivals, Mazda models look more stylish and feature finer materials, so this crossover shouldn’t be any different. We count on a lot of inspiration from models like CX-9, which is characterized by exceptional interior quality, full of hi-end materials and impressive aesthetics. Naturally, we also count on a full load of tech goodies and advanced safety features.
On the other side, Mazda models traditionally sacrifice practicality for aesthetics, so we may presume that the 2021 Mazda CX-7 would go in a similar direction. This means we might expect a little big smaller cargo volume compared to some rivals. Currently, an average two-row mid-size crossover offers around 40 cubic feet behind rear seats. We hope the new model will get at least close to that number.
2021 Mazda CX-7 Engines
Motorization is where Mazda has brought some interesting solutions in the recent past, so we expect a lot from the new model. One of the units that seem like a certain thing is a 2.5-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 227 horsepower on regular fuel, but if you pour premium gasoline, a max output goes up to full 250 horsepower. In both cases, driving dynamics are pretty amazing. Also, it wouldn’t be a surprise if we see one more engine in the offer. Of course, we think on a new SkyActiveX engine, which might come is some new version, designed for this crossover.
Also, keep in mind that this engine could also be offered in Europe, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a diesel unit in the offer as well. Of course, we count on a well-known 2.2-liter turbodiesel.
2021 Mazda CX-7 Release Date and Price
Although just a rumor at the moment, the 2021 Mazda CX-7 could easily come already in the next year. When it comes to the price, we presume that base models would go somewhere around 30.000 dollars.
