GMC’s largest SUV is all-new for the next season. Like its twins with the Chevrolet badge, Tahoe and Suburban, Yukon is entering the new generation in style. The new independent rear suspension and a diesel engine will help it beat the competition and provide a unique drive impression. There are more rivals in the premium segment, so it is not going to be easy for the 2021 GMC Yukon with likes of Mercedes GLS, BMW X7, Lexus LX, or Land Rover Range Rover.
With the fresh styling, the expectations from the new 2021 GMC Yukon are pretty high. GM’s luxury brand will introduce some advanced technologies, available only in this class. Well, we expected to see it earlier, but the entire fleet hit a delay. Meanwhile, we could witness the prototypes behind the heavy camo, as well as the confirmation of a diesel drivetrain. All these features will make fans waiting for the upcoming model, rather than spending money on some of the existing SUVs.
2021 GMC Yukon Redesign
One of the highlights of the new model will be styling. The 2021 GMC Yukon will get a fresh shape and it also becomes bigger than ever. This space will be used for features inside the cabin. According to the first details, higher trim levels will be heavily packed with the most advanced technology in the market. Well, we already got used to it with the Denali model. But now, it is not the only highlight. The carmaker also brings the AT4 package with more impressive off-road equipment. Of course, this one will get special parts to protect its body, as well as details that will make it different from other models in the lineup.
Photos of the prototype on the official GMC page are showing a different SUV. The front fascia suffers the most changes. Even these fans who are not so into the details will recognize new nose, bumper, and headlights. We believe that SUV is going to be lighter than before. Yes, there will be more equipment inside, but body panels will use more aluminum and carbon fiber. Everything should also result in a slightly better fuel economy.
Yukon has a new look, but interior features are more stunning. The company brings a lot of new technology to the market, including more cameras and other driver-aid equipment that will boost overall safety. We will mention just a few highlights, but do not think that is all since the 2021 GMC Yukon brings a lot more.
Power Sliding Center Console is something innovative. You can slide it back for 10 inches to get more space with hidden drawers. The carmaker announced there will be a total of nine camera views available in top trims. The top-notch feature is the HD Surround Vision. You can also replace an old-fashioned rear-view glass with the camera mirror. A 15-inch head-up display will show you all the information you choose.
The new Yukon will be available in ten colors. Summit White is the only standard color that will be there right at the launch. You will have to wait for a Hunter Metallic and Cayenne Red Tincoat since these colors are arriving late. Seven more paints will be available as ‘premium’ colors and these will cost extra: Midnight Blue Metallic, Pearl Beige Metallic, Onyx Black, White Frost Tricoat, Satin Steel Metallic, Smokey Quartz Metallic, and Dark Sky Metallic.
2021 GMC Yukon Specs
Under the hood of the 2021 GMC Yukon remains a 5.3-liter V8 engine as the main choice. This powerplant is ready to crunch 355 horsepower. But, the carmaker is more proud of its larger 6.2-liter displacement. In this case, drivers will get 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. It used to be the best hauler in the lineup, but the new diesel unit will take over the spot from a 6.2 mill. A ten-speed automatic transmission sends power to rear wheels. The new Yukon will get the IRS, which is improving handling and off-road performance. Plus, the SUV is getting an all-terrain AT4 package for even an enhanced impression.
Diesel Engine Becomes a Part of the Lineup
A 3.0-liter turbodiesel Duramax powertrain is currently one of the highlights on the Silverado 1500 truck. General Motors officially confirmed that other big rigs are also getting this drivetrain and one of them is the 2021 GMC Yukon. Buyers now have another option, which is good for 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Compared to its main rivals, Ford and FCA, this unit is more powerful, but it is not converted into the towing capacity boost. Well, 9,600 pounds will be more than a pair of petrol V8s can do. But, Duramax lacks 2,000 pounds compared to EcoDiesel and PowerStroke. On the other way, if you need a higher towing potential, then you should consider a purchase of a truck, not an SUV.
