Seven years after the initial release, the 2020 Renault Captur is coming completely redesigned. The popular crossover still makes great sales results. Still, fresh design is so much needed, as the situation on the market is getting tougher and tougher. The new model is in the late stage of development and it is expected to arrive soon. At this point, the test mule rides on the road and still wears a camouflage. So, some most of the details are still unknown. Still, we have no doubt that the new model will come with novelties in all aspects.
The 2020 Renault Captur will come with a completely new design, with significantly improved styling and interior design. Also, count on completely new motorization. There is a new gasoline engine, but the future will bring electrified powertrain options as well. Expect to see the new model sometime in the second half of the year.
2020 Renault Captur Redesign
The 2020 Renault Captur redesign is about to bring lots of novelties. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. The new model will ride on the latest version of a familiar CMF-B platform. Once again, we will see a lot of similarities with the company’s best-seller Clio, both in terms of mechanics and aesthetics.
Compared to the current model, the 2020 Renault Captur will come with lots of saved pounds. A lightweight body will provide better efficiency, as well as better driving characteristics. In terms of the size, things should remain similar, with only minor changes in wheelbase and overall length.
2020 Renault Captur Styling
Every redesign brings a completely new styling and the 2020 Renault Captur won’t be an exception. The new model is in a late stage of development and the testing model has been noticed for a couple of times so far. It still wears a complete camouflage, so we can talk about details. Still, it’s not hard to realize that the overall shape will be similar to the original model. Count on very similar proportions, but on a completely new face. As you may presume, the all-new Clio will serve as an inspiration. The famous hatchback has been redesigned recently and it comes with a completely new styling. The 2020 Renault Captur will feature the same design language, on both ends. Of course, we will see a typical crossover layout, with higher ground clearance, black plastic surfaces that mimic underbody protection and similar things.
2020 Renault Captur Interior
The testing model rides on the road, but we haven’t managed to see how it looks from the inside yet. Still, we expect to see significant improvements compared to the outgoing model. The original model featured cabin design that was pretty much the same as in the fourth-generation Clio. We expect close relationship with the famous hatchback once again. In practice, this would mean a big improvement in terms of the overall quality, with finer and more durable materials. Of course, count on a new dashboard design.
Without any doubt, a new vertically-positioned touchscreen that dominates the center stack is the most notable detail about the new dash. There are many more interesting parts, including new steering wheel and attractive instrument cluster. Naturally, the new model will come with latest tech goodies, which will include things like new infotainment system, as well as lots of advanced driver aids and safety systems. This will probably include the Nissan’s new ProPilot, which is one of the most advanced semi-autonomous driving systems in the automotive industry today.
2020 Renault Captur Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, we could on a wide palette of engines. One of the most interesting novelties will be a new gasoline engine. It is an efficient 1.3-liter turbo engine, which already debuted in several models from the Renault Nissan Alliance, including the new Qashqai. It is very efficient and delivers a total amount of 160 horsepower. Considering that Europe is the main market, the 2020 Renault Captur will also carry on with familiar dCi diesel units.
Still, the most interesting will be the new electrified version. Renault will benefit a lot from its alliance with Nissan. So, the new crossover will come with the system that is based on Nissan’s 1.6-liter gasoline unit. It will be a plug-in hybrid system, so you can use the electric motor not just for additional torque, but for the all-electric model as well. Still, don’t count on any spectacular range but on 20-30 miles only. Latest reports suggest we could see a conventional hybrid system in the offer as well.
2020 Renault Captur Release Date and Price
The new 2020 Renault Captur should arrive sometime in the second half of the year, most likely in the third quarter. We don’t expect bigger changes in price, so base models should go around 20.000 dollars.
