Despite a couple of reports suggest discontinuation, we have no doubt that the Japanese carmaker is about to keep one of its best-sellers. Moreover, we are about to see a complete redesign soon and one of the biggest novelties will be a new 2020 Nissan Qashqai Hybrid.
The original model came 13 years ago and it instantly became one of the most popular crossovers in Europe. The current model also marks impressive sales numbers. So, there is no doubt that Nissan is about to introduce the third generation of this amazing small SUV. Moreover, the new model is in an advanced stage of development and it is expected to hit the market may be even this year. In any case, it is about to bring a lot of novelties. Besides various technical upgrades, the new model is also about to come with a completely new styling, new interior design and much more. Also, we are about to see electrified powertrain options for this crossover for the first time.
2020 Nissan Qashqai Hybrid Redesign
First of all, it is important to mention that the 2020 Nissan Qashqai Hybrid will feature pretty much the same overall design as standard internal-combustion models. Therefore, count on a completely new design, which will utilize the newest version of the company’s familiar CMF platform. With the latest updates, this platform now offers more benefits than before. It is adaptable to electrified powertrain but also comes with improvements in handling, a lot of saved pounds, better efficiency, and overall ride quality. In this particular case, the 2020 Nissan Qashqai will come with similar size, but with significant weight reduction, which will provide both better fuel economy and driving characteristics. In terms of size, we don’t expect to see bigger changes compared to the current model. It could get an inch or more in wheelbase, but things will remain pretty much the same.
2020 Nissan Qashqai Hybrid Styling
In terms of the styling, the 2020 Nissan Qashqai Hybrid won’t be much different from the standard model. That would mean a completely new look, compared to the outgoing model. In practice, count on adaptation on the brand’s latest design language, which comes with rather evolutionary changes. Count on the latest layout of the company’s famous V-motion design language. The overall approach will be boosted by sharper lines, especially when it comes to the front end, to areas like front bumper and headlights. Also, count on more muscles from the side, especially around fenders. Still, the overall shape is about to remain pretty much the same. So, count on a familiar SUV shape, which is quite conventional and brings lots of practicality and functionality. At this point, it is still unknown whether the 2020 Nissan Qashqai Hybrid is about to come with a couple of distinctive styling details or not.
2020 Nissan Qashqai Hybrid Interior
Just like the exterior, the interior design will also be the same as in gasoline models. Practically, the biggest difference will be in terms of gauges that are typical for hybrid cars. The rest of the cabin will be pretty much the same. The upcoming redesign is about to bring a completely new interior layout and we count on a lot of improvements, compared to the current model. Still, we must say that the current model is still pretty amazing in some aspects, despite the age. This particularly refers to the cargo area, which is one of the biggest in the class. The overall cabin quality is pretty average for the class. Still, there is a couple of areas that features a little bit disappointing quality of materials. Such issues should be fixed with the upcoming redesign.
2020 Nissan Qashqai Hybrid Powertrain
We count on two hybrid variants in the offer. The base 2020 Nissan Qashqai Hybrid will come with Nissan’s typical hybrid layout, based on a four-cylinder engine. Also, we count on a plug-in hybrid powertrain. This version will be based on Mitsubishi’s PHEV system, which is considered to be most advanced in the automotive industry. It offers not just amazing mpg ratings, but spectacularly low CO2 emissions as well.
Besides hybrid powertrain, the new Qashqai will continue in gasoline variants as well. Among them, we will also see a new 1.3-liter turbo gasoline engine from Renault, which delivers around 160 horsepower. Also, the 2020 Nissan Qashqai should carry on with Renault’s famous dCi diesel engines.
2020 Nissan Qashqai Hybrid Release Date and Price
The new generation of the famous compact crossover is in the late stage of development and the 2020 Nissan Qashqai Hybrid should come relatively soon. Although some reports suggest this could happen by the end of 2019, the next year sounds more like. When it comes to the price, hybrid models will be more expensive compared to standard gasoline models, which are currently available already at around 21.000 Euros.
