2020 Mercedes-Benz GLG Release date, Price, Interior
It looks like the German carmaker continues with the expansion of its SUV lineup. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLG should be the newest addition and it will be a very exciting vehicle if we can rely on the latest reports. It looks like Mercedes wants to make a super-capable off-roader, which would eventually compete with models like Range Rover Sport. Despite it will come as an off-roader, it probably won’t feature a typical body-on-frame platform, but rather a modern unibody layout. This would be very interesting to see, especially if we consider that the company promises a very rugged look and excellent performances. It is also important to know that the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLG is still just a rumor. At this point, the company hasn’t come up with anything more precise about this model. Moreover, we are still waiting to hear whether it’s coming or not.
2020 Mercedes-Benz GLG Red
If it arrives, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLG will definitely come with a very interesting design. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind in the platform. As you probably know, this model is supposed to be a super-capable off-road machine. For that cause, carmakers usually use a traditional body-on-frame platform. The German manufacturer will go in a completely different way this time. Latest reports suggest that the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLG will ride on a modern unibody platform. More precisely, it will be based on the popular mid-size crossover GLE. A completely new GLE has been presented recently and it is expected to hit the U.S. market in the next few months. It comes with a lot of new design solutions, based on a new W167 architecture.
Of course, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLG would come with a lot of chassis upgrades, with all those reinforcements, needed for a successful off-road. On the other side, a unibody platform will definitely provide an excellent on-road driving experience.
2020 Mercedes-Benz GLG Styling
This will definitely be one of the most interesting aspects of the new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLG. As you probably know, a completely new GLB is coming soon and it is already considered as some kind of a “baby G-Wagen”, considering that its styling is heavily inspired by the iconic off-roader. The GLG should come in the same way. In practice, this means a rugged, super-boxy shaper, in a manner of genuine off-roaders. In terms of the size, this will be a typical mid-size SUV. Despite a lot of inspiration taken from the G-Wagen, the legendary off-roader definitely won’t be discontinued, considering its growing popularity in past few years.
2020 Mercedes-Benz GLG Interior
This part of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLG is still a mystery. At this point, we can speculate about the most basic things only. This primarily refers to the base layout. In terms of the size, the new model will be a mid-size SUV. Therefore, we expect to see three rows of seating, at least offered as an option. Of course, that optional third row would probably be a little bit tight, which is a typical thing for the segment. On the other side, its super boxy shape would definitely provide a lot of headroom, as well as a pretty practical cargo area.
Just like in any other Mercedes-Benz vehicles, hi-quality materials will be all around. Count of top-grade soft-touch surfaces all around the cabin. Still, the styling of this interior should be quite different compared to models like GLE. Still, this doesn’t exclude all those tech goodies and advanced safety systems and driver aids.
2020 Mercedes-Benz GLG Engines
Unlike other aspects, this one should be pretty typical. Count on familiar units from this manufacturer. As we already mentioned, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLG will be based on the new GLE, so expect a lot of similarities in terms of the powertrain lineup. Still, we presume that the base turbo-four would probably be skipped in this case.
So, the offer would probably start with a new 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that delivers 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque and also comes with a 48V electric system with an integrated starter motor. This system powers things like in-car electronics, aid conditioning, electronically-driven turbocharger etc. In the future, we count on hi-performance versions as well. These would include the company’s familiar V8 units, with displacements of 4.7 and 5.5 liters. Of course, we also expect to see a new 9-speed automatic transmission.
2020 Mercedes-Benz GLG Release Date and Price
At this point, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLG still waits for the official confirmation. Still, many reports suggest that the new SUV is pretty much a certain thing. At this point, we can only sit and wait to hear something from the officials. As we already mentioned, this model will probably compete with models like Range Rover Sport. Therefore, base models will probably go somewhere around 65/70.000 dollars.
