The current generation of this subcompact crossover has been around for about three years, so everyone was surprised with Mazda’s recent introduction of a new crossover. However, it turned out that was completely new, while the current version will carry on separately. Therefore, the company’s lineup is now expanded. The new model will be called CX-30 and it will stand between current CX-3 and CX-5.
On the other side, the entry-level model will remain the same, with familiar design characteristics and features. We don’t expect any notable change for the next year, despite some reports were suggesting a mid-cycle refresh. That will have to wait for some more time. The 2020 Mazda CX-3 will remain untouched, with the possibility to see a couple of new standard features, but nothing more than that.
Therefore, expect to see it in usual time, sometime late in the year, most likely in December.
Don’t Mix CX-3 With New CX-30
Mazda it definitely guilty for this confusion, as this naming policy definitely doesn’t sound right. Therefore, keep in mind that the new CX-30 is a completely new model, which is slightly bigger. It offers a more functional interior and slightly bigger dimensions. Also, it rides on the company’s new platform, recently introduced with the new-generation Mazda 3. This means benefits in many ways, including a new SkyActive X engine, which should be available in the near future.
On the other side, the CX-3 remains the entry-level model, one of the smallest vehicles in the company’s complete lineup. It won’t get any notable change this time, but some updates are possible already a year later.
2020 Mazda CX-3 Redesign
In terms of base design characteristics, the 2020 Mazda CX-3 won’t change, as we already mentioned. Therefore, count on the same dynamic crossover, which delivers excellent driving characteristics. Amazing handling and great driving dynamics are probably the best things about this model, along with the amazing styling, which is definitely one of the prettiest in the class. We recently saw a couple of updates, even in terms of the styling, though all these tweaks are barely notable. A major update is expected for the 2021-year model, when we should see notable styling changes, along with various other kinds of updates.
While the styling and driving characteristics are amazing, the interior of this small crossover is a kind of mixed bag. On one side, the overall interior quality is great. The 2020 Mazda CX-3 will continue in the same way, with same stylish dashboard design and a nice list of standard equipment. On the other side, the downside of this crossover is a quite tight cabin. The second row is pretty tight, even for subcompact standards. Same goes for the cargo space, as you can count on just 12.4 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 44.5 cubic feet with them folded down. These are way below average numbers for the class.
Tech Features and Safety
When it comes to tech goodies, this crossover stands pretty well. The 2020 Mazda CX-3 could come with a couple of additions but things will generally remain the same. Therefore, count that base models will feature a 7-inch touch screen, a console-mounted control knob, Bluetooth, etc. Of course, higher trims offer even more. Some of the notable available features are things like navigation, but some notable tech goodies are also missing. For example, you can’t get Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
On the other side, the list of standard features is pretty amazing. All versions come with standard features like rearview camera, low-speed automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert, which is pretty good for the class. In higher trims, there are lots of advanced safety systems in the offer, including full-speed forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, adaptive headlights, and traffic sign recognition.
2020 Mazda CX-3 Engine
The engine of this crossover is great. It is a familiar 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit, which in this case delivers around 150 horsepower. Such amount of power is more than enough for a vehicle of this size, so the CX-3 has pretty strong acceleration, while the ride is convenient in all conditions. The engine comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission, which is smooth and also comes with manual shifting mode as standard.
Another great thing about this engine is amazing fuel economy, which is some of the best in class. You can count on 29 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway, which sound pretty impressive.
2020 Mazda CX-3 Release Date and Price
The 2020 Mazda CX-3 won’t feature any notable change, so we shouldn’t see it on the market earlier than usual. That means it will be launched sometime late in the year, probably with the same starting price, which currently goes around 20.500 dollars.
