After the refresh, we are pretty sure that this mid-size crossover won’t change too much in the next couple of years. The current generation has been around since 2016 and we presume it will be for some more time. Therefore, the 2020 Kia Sorento will be pretty much a carryover model. We count on a familiar design, which has been updated recently with a fine portion of interesting novelties, mainly in terms of aesthetics.
The rest of the crossover is pretty much the as in the initial model, so there’s no need to waste too many words on it. This is an affordable, but also a vehicle that offers a lot of quality, starting from a smooth ride, good-looking cabin, decent comfort etc. The next year could possibly bring a couple of additions in terms of standard equipment, but don’t count on anything spectacular. Therefore, expect to see it sometime late in the year.
2020 Kia Sorento Redesign
In terms of base design characteristics, there is no room for bigger changes. This manufacturer doesn’t practice major changes during a production cycle, which seems logical, considering that these cycles are generally short with this carmaker. Also, keep in mind that we saw a facelift last year. It included a variety of changes, mostly visual nature. Of course, most of them came at the front end, where you can notice a new grille, revised headlights, and reshaped bumper.
The rear end has been updated as well, with new taillights. Also, there is a new LED lighting, which also includes new daytime running lights. Of course, there are also typical updates in terms of new color options, new sets of wheels, etc. All in all, there is no good reason to expect any more important novelty for the next year.
While previous versions were available in both five and seven-seat configurations, the current model comes with standard three rows. The 2020 Kia Sorento will continue in the same way. Practically, this is the most affordable three-row model in the class. The next-year model shouldn’t feature any notable change for the next year. Therefore, count on pretty stylish cabin design, with a lot of fine materials, fancy color schemes and a fine amount of standard equipment.
In terms of comfort, the first two rows are pretty decent. Seats feature pretty decent quality, while the legroom is pretty average for the class. On the other side, the third row is very tight, definitely not for adults. When it comes to the cargo space, you can count on only 11 cubic feet behind the third row, which is way below average ratings for the class. The overall cargo volume isn’t spectacular either, as you can count on around 72 cubic feet with the folded second and third row.
Tech and Safety Features
This aspect may bring a couple of novelties in the next year, but things will generally remain pretty much the same. Base models already feature a pretty decent amount of standard tech features. It includes a 7-inch touchscreen with an updated infotainment system and smartphone integration goodies like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Bluetooth, USB and a 6-speaker audio system are other notable standard features. Higher trims are also available with features like a bigger 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, satellite radio, wireless phone charging, etc.
2020 Kia Sorento Engines
Things under the hood are about to remain the same for the next year. The base 2020 Kia Sorento will carry on with a familiar 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which delivers around 185 horsepower. Such amount of power seems okay for daily use, though most drivers would probably prefer something more powerful. On the other side, a huge benefit is an excellent fuel economy, which goes around 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, which are some of the best results in the class.
Those who want for more power can opt for a V6 engine. It is available in higher trim levels and delivers pretty good 290 horsepower. Besides plenty of power, it is also pretty decent in terms of fuel economy. You can count on something like 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, which are pretty decent numbers if we compare them with other V6 models in the class.
When it comes to transmission, the base engine comes with a six-speed automatic, while V6 models feature 8-speed automatic gearbox. Front-wheel drive is standard but you can get AWD as well.
2020 Kia Sorento Release Date and Price
The 2020 Kia Sorento will be a carryover. Due to the lack of changes, we don’t expect any earlier launch than usual. It should hit the market sometime late in the year, with the base price around 26.500 dollars.
