The current generation has been around since 2016 and nothing has changed for these three years of production. If we can rely on the latest reports, the 2020 Jeep Compass won’t feature any bigger changes either. At this point, it may early to talk about, but it looks like the mid-cycle refresh is about to happen for 2021. For that occasion, this compact SUV should receive novelties in terms of the styling and more. Until then, things will remain pretty much the same.
So, expect to see 2020 Jeep Compass with familiar design characteristics, with the same look, interior design, engine etc. Practically, the best we can get would be a couple of novelties in terms of standard equipment. The list of standard equipment could be expanded, but don’t count on anything significant. Therefore, the launch date should be scheduled for a typical time of the year, sometime in late 2019.
2020 Jeep Compass Redesign
Considering that there are no bigger changes to come in the next year, the 2020 Jeep Compass will come with familiar characteristics. This model rides on the company’s familiar Small US Wide platform, which underprints models like Renegade and 500X too. However, the Compass is notably bigger. As a compact crossover, it competes in the segment where some of the key players are Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 etc.
For many reasons, this model lags behind. First of all, there is on-road ride quality and handling, which aren’t that good. Another complaint goes to the engine, which definitely needs more power. On the other side, the Compass is a very capable off-roader, with an upscale interior and intuitive infotainment system.
In terms of styling, things are pretty typical here. Unlike Cherokee, which features some quite experimental aesthetical solutions, this one features Jeep’s typical appearance, heavily inspired by the flagship Grand Cherokee. The 2020 Jeep Compass will continue in the same way, with a recognizable grille and headlights, as well as with a quite SUV-ish appearance.
This will definitely continue to be one of the strongest points of this crossover. The 2020 Jeep Compass will continue with the same cabin layout, which looks very upscale. Hi-quality materials are all around the cabin and most of them are soft on touch as well. The seats offer decent comfort and support, while there is a fine amount of space, both in terms of leg and headroom. On the other side, the cargo room definitely isn’t spectacular. You can count on about 27 cubic feet behind rear seats and almost 60 cubic feet of overall cargo space. Most rivals offer more, though the Compass offers a foldable passenger’s seat, which can be highly beneficial in some situations, especially with long objects.
As we already mentioned, probably the only notable novelty for the next year would be a possible addition of new standard features. However, we must say that the current model is already equipped pretty well. Base models come with tech goodies like a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 6-speaker audio, USB, Bluetooth etc. Higher trims add an 8.4-inch touch screen, satellite radio, a nine-speaker Beats premium sound system, navigation and many more. Also, higher trims offer some nice comfort and convenience upgrades, such as leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, heated steering wheels etc.
When it comes to safety, things should be better, A rearview camera is the only standard features. Still, you can get many more in higher trims. Some of the highlights are systems like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control etc.
2020 Jeep Compass Engine
The Compass may look attractive, but performances are a little bit disappointing, definitely not in accordance with the model’s appearance. Unfortunately, there is only one engine in the offer and that would be a familiar 2.4-liter four-cylinder, which has never been impressive. In this case, it delivers around 180 horsepower, which definitely doesn’t seem enough for this crossover, especially if we consider its off-road potential.
On the other side, a good thing is that you have three transmission choices in the offer. Base models come with a 6-speed manual gearbox, while 6- and 9-speed automatics are available too. When it comes to fuel economy, things aren’t bad. You can count on 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, which are pretty much average ratings for the class.
2020 Jeep Compass Release Date and Price
Given the fact that the 2020 Jeep Compass is about to come with no bigger changes, we expect its arrival sometime late in the year. The price should also remain pretty much unchanged. Base models will go around 22.000, while top-range models can go up to 30.000 dollars.
