We can now say for sure that the British carmaker has made an excellent crossover. The all-electric I Pace came recently and it is already considered as one of the best small crossovers on the market. Simply, it has everything one good car needs to have. Of course, it all starts with powerful electric motors, but this is not just a fast vehicle, but also very maneuverable, with amazing handling. Moreover, it features a pretty stylish look, as well as a spacious, luxurious and well-equipped cabin. Finally, there is an amazing all-electric range, so it seems hard to find any major drawback in this model. However, that doesn’t mean that the 2020 Jaguar I Pace will be just a carryover model. Allegedly, we are about to see a new version, with a larger battery pack, which would provide an even longer range. Expect to see it late in the year.
2020 Jaguar I Pace Could Get New Battery Pack!?
As we’ve just mentioned, the biggest possible novelty for the next year may be a new battery pack. Currently, this model comes with a large 90-kWh battery, which ensures a max range of around 240 miles. With such numbers, the I Pace is on par with segment leaders like Chevy Bolt, Tesla Model X etc. However, the company wants to raise the pole, allegedly. Therefore, many reports are suggesting an optional bigger battery in the offer, which would provide even more miles on a single charge. Unfortunately, details are still unknown.
Despite more battery capacity, we probably won’t see changes in terms of electric motor and overall drivetrain layout. The 2020 Jaguar I Pace will continue with a couple of hi-output electric motors, which deliver a combined output of around 400 horsepower. With such amount of power, the I Pace delivers pretty spectacular performances. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is acceleration, and it is pretty amazing. It needs only 4.5 seconds to get to 60 mph, which sounds pretty amazing for the class.
Besides long range, another great feature about this crossover is a standard fast-charging option, which charges 80% of the battery in about an hour.
2020 Jaguar I Pace Redesign
In terms of base design characteristics, the 2020 Jaguar I Pace definitely won’t change. This vehicle rides the company’s familiar D7 platform, which has been adapted to the electric drivetrain in this case. It also utilizes a lot of aluminum and other lightweight materials. Also, there is a new styling. The first thing you’ll notice is that this model features pretty low height and that it also sits pretty low, so it looks more like a hatchback than a crossover. It’s obvious that it can’t do anything spectacular off the road, but that wasn’t the company’s intention at all. Another thing to mention is that the design language involves sharper lines than we used from Jaguar. Therefore, we may presume that future models will go in a similar direction as well.
On the inside, the 2020 Jaguar I Pace will continue in the same way, which is good. This crossover features pretty good interior quality, typical for Jaguar. All materials are fine and soft on touch, while the dashboard features a lot of digital controls and odd shapes, in order to break the monotony. Besides the style, this model also features plenty of functionality. Although an all-electric vehicle, it comes with a pretty spacious cabin. Both rows offer more than enough leg and headroom and the only complaint about functionality goes to rear visibility, which could be better. The cargo area is pretty decent as well. You can count on around 25 cubic feet behind the rear seats.
Tech and Safety Features
When it comes to tech goodies, we could see a couple of additions for the next year, but the current model is already pretty generous in this aspect. The company’s new dual-screen interface is standard in all models, as well as things like Bluetooth, HD and satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot and six USB ports. In higher trims, you can also get things like adjustable ambient interior lighting, four-zone climate control, and a head-up display.
In terms of safety, the list of standard features is pretty long. Some of the highlights are forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a rearview camera, park assist, rear cross traffic alert, etc. Of course, higher trims offer even more, including advanced systems like adaptive cruise control, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, high-speed emergency braking, a 360-degree camera system and many more.
2020 Jaguar I Pace Release Date and Price
Despite potential novelties, we don’t believe that the 2020 Jaguar I Pace will come before the last quarter of the year. Also, base models should keep the same price, which currently goes around 70.000 dollars.
