The fourth generation of the Santa Fe SUV is still fresh. The Korean company is turning to other vehicles, the new ones that will be available in the next couple of years. Some of them are out already. Palisade, Rugged SUV, and one more crossover are going to make Hyundai’s fleet complete. However, there will be still room for the updates on the new 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe.
The new model is not getting any cosmetic treatment. On the other hand, everything else seems to be a huge modification of the new generation SUV. Or update. The company already announced the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe diesel. Well, they are still reconsidering this decision. But, it drew a lot of attention since it would be the first diesel by Hyundai in the US. Less loud rumors are about the hybrid drivetrain. Well, these are only speculations, since the company is still quiet about it.
Well, the major change on the body will happen after the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe gets the N sport version. This package will tune the drivetrain for better performance. Also, the exterior will get few sportier details. Finally, the 2020 Santa Fe could introduce the convertible version for US buyers. This is not a simple rumor since the first photos of this model are already available.
2020 Hyundai Santa Fe Petrol Engines
A 3.3-liter unit is not a part of the Santa Fe’s lineup anymore. It was replaced by a smaller block, a 2.0-liter turbo-four unit. This is going to be the main choice for buyers. The engine can produce 235 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Well, in Hyundai Veloster the same drivetrain is capable to produce 35 hp more.
Well, the base setup will use a naturally-aspirated 2.4-liter four-pot unit. This one can deliver 185 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. This drivetrain returns around 25 mpg combined, while the turbocharged one is making the same fuel economy on a highway drive.
Fans were thrilled when the Hyundai made it official. However, it seems like 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe diesel is under the review. The major reason is VW’s scandal with fake reports and the Korean company believe the market of these vehicles will start to slow down. However, Ford and Toyota are bringing diesel units for their main models. So, the 2020 Santa Fe diesel is still alive. In the worst scenario, the vehicle could hit the delay for the 2021 season.
Whatsoever, this was one of the major updates the company left for next season. Experts believe the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe diesel could use a 2.2-liter engine that is capable to produce 200 hp. This CRDi unit also bursts 330 lb-ft of torque, which will be handy for towing. Estimated fuel savings are noteworthy. The new SUV could go up to 40 mpg on the highway. However, the engine must meet emission requirements to find the spot in the US lineup. Cutting down the emissions might be a major concern and the reason why Hyundai could delay the appearance of a diesel motor.
Another Engine – Hybrid
That is not all about possible additions to the engine room of the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe. The SUV could also get a hybrid drivetrain. During the last summer, Hyundai announced that this kind of engine is almost ready, and it will take 12-18 months for the final phase of development. That perfectly fits to 2020 season and we believe the hybrid Santa Fe will be introduced by the end of this year. Well, it could be another reason why the Korean manufacturer is thinking again of delaying the diesel unit.
Buyers in the UK already drive hybrid versions of Santa Fe SUV. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is the base of the system. It pairs the gasoline engine with a 48V hybrid system to produce more power and consume less fuel. According to announcements, the system will save up to 30 percent of fuel. In future, the EV model is planned, but as a part of a mid-cycle refresh in 2022 or 2023.
2020 Hyundai Santa Fe N, Convertible
The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe N will be the SUV with sportier characteristics. Its sibling, Tucson, will be the first to get this set of features. However, engineers will tune it for the larger model. This model will get a 2.0-liter turbo engine with maximum performance. We can expect the output to go up to 270 hp. The turbo system could make a beast of this SUV, making it deliver 330 hp from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. However, this is the less likely outcome for N model.
And what about the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe convertible? We can see teaser photos and the vehicle looks very attractive. This is a chip for another update, and we still don’t know when Hyundai is going to use it. Since the pictures are available for a quite while, the 2020 edition of the Hyundai Santa Fe could be the first to appear with a new look.
