2020 GMC Yukon Diesel, Facelift, Release Date, SLT
The 2020 GMC Yukon is going to be more versatile than its predecessors ever were. The reason, behind the wide offer of trim levels, is the new diesel engine. The twin of the Chevy Tahoe is getting the same Duramax unit as GMC Sierra 1500 truck. Well, this is not the only change on the 2020 Yukon. Besides the standard model, the extended Yukon XL version is going to be even longer. Furthermore, special packages for the Denali SUV will make one of the prestigious vehicle even more luxurious.
To confirm some of these rumors, there are spy photos. Although there is still enough time for development, the 2020 GMC Yukon is already on streets, testing new parts. Which – we don’t know. Heavy camouflage is covering most of its body. But, small changes on the front and back will refresh the SUV. The facelift comes five years after the current generation of GMC Yukon was launched as a part of a mid-cycle redesign.
2020 GMC Yukon, XL and Denali SUVs
The variety of models under the Yukon badge is one of the reasons why this nameplate is so popular. Standard SUV is coming as the base 2020 GMC Yukon. The full-size model can grow even further with Yukon XL that adds 20 inches more, while the wheelbase remains the same. On the other hand, height and width are also identical. Besides this one, the 2020 Yukon also offers the high-end Denali SUV. Packed with the latest features, this is one of the most luxurious big SUVs out in the market. The only true competitor to this one is Lincoln Navigator. Unique accessories will make this model eye-catching, outside and inside.
2020 GMC Yukon Specs
The 2020 GMC Yukon is going to suffer the facelift, but major changes are cosmetic. Under the hood of the SUV is still a 5.3-liter V-8 engine as the base option. The drivetrain is capable to produce 355 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The power goes to front wheels by default. All-wheel drive is optional.
Another option is a 6.2-liter V-8 engine. A bigger unit is more potent, with the output of 420 horses and 460 pound-feet. The same transmission box is there for this engine, while the distribution goes to all wheels. More power means also higher fuel consumption. But, the difference between 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter units is not decisive.
The brand-new Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks are close siblings. Both of them are getting a diesel engine for the upcoming season. Only a year after them, 2020 GMC Yukon could borrow the Duramax unit. This seems to be even more possible knowing the SUV is using the same petrol units as half-ton pickups. If this rumor comes true, the Yukon diesel model will get a drivetrain capable to develop around 250 horses and 420 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, poor fuel consumption is getting a big boost, as well as off-road capabilities.
2020 Yukon Changes
The redesign is bringing changes for the 2020 GMC Yukon. For the base model, something is happening for sure, since heavy covers are hiding everything on test mules. Besides this one, the 2020 Yukon XL could add 3-4 inches more to its overall length. Finally, the most exciting model, Yukon Denali is preparing new sets of premium features and accessories. With these, the carmaker is going to cement the #1 spot in the premium full-size SUV segment.
2020 GMC Yukon Release Date
We will know more about 2020 GMC Yukon early in 2019. Either NAIAS in January or NY Auto Show in April will host the premiere of the big SUV. However, the sales will start late in 2019, or even it can happen in 2020.
