The new generation of the popular compact crossover is about to come very soon, as the 2020 Ford Escape. We are eagerly waiting to see how the new version of this dynamic SUV will look like. Fortunately for us, most of the details about the new model are already known. Like the current generation, which is present on the market since 2012, the new one will also come from Europe. The company’s famous department located in Germany once again took charge of the developing process.
This clearly suggests that the 2020 Ford Escape will come with important improvements, especially in terms of efficiency. Of course, this redesign will be much more than that, as we are about to see a completely new styling, new mechanics, new cabin etc. Also, it is important to mention that a hybrid version is definitely coming, and could be even ready for the initial launch.
2020 Ford Escape Redesign
Like every other redesign, this one is also about to bring a lot of novelties. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. The 2020 Ford Escape will ride on a new architecture, on the same one that underprints the new Focus. The famous compact car has been redesigned a year ago, so it seems like a perfect guide for the changes that are about to come with the new Escape.
Two models will share mechanics almost completely, that’s for sure. In terms of overall design characteristics, the new generation won’t change too much. We are about to see similar proportions and overall size. However, we have no doubt that Ford engineers already done various chassis improvements in order to get better ratings and crash tests, as the current model lags behind main competitors.
2020 Ford Escape Styling
The styling is one of the things that sales a vehicle. The Escape will definitely look good, as it’s not going to depart too much from the current generation. The testing model is on the road and it already shows a lot of interesting things. Besides the fact that the testing model is actually a hybrid, we can see pretty much complete styling, despite the camouflage. There is no doubt that the new 2020 Ford Escape will share the same design language as the Focus, which means that we won’t see any radical departure from the current model.
The overall shape will remain pretty similar, while the front face will be characterized by a slightly reshaped grille and new headlights, that are slightly less sharp than before. On the other side, bumpers will be more angular, especially in areas around fog lights and air intakes. At this point, it is still unclear whether the hybrid version is about to feature any distinctive detail or not.
2020 Ford Escape Interior
The test mule has been spotted not just from the outside, but from the inside as well. Most areas are uncovered, so we can say we know pretty much a complete look of the new dashboard and the rest of the cabin. It wasn’t hard to presume that most of the parts would be shared with the new Focus. We will see pretty much the same dashboard, layout, which combines digital and analog elements very well. It looks pretty attractive and should be functional as well, due to the fact that most people still prefer physical buttons over digital controls.
As we already mentioned, bigger changes in price are not expected. Therefore, don’t expect any significant enlargements in terms of legroom and cargo area. On the other side, we count on more standard equipment in base models. This particularly refers to safety features, as we expect that Ford will be more generous this time.
2020 Ford Escape Engines
When it comes to the engines, we count on two familiar gasoline units in the offer. This refers to a well-known 2.0-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 245 horsepower. A smaller 1.5-liter three-cylinder unit will be in the offer as well, but most likely only for abroad markets. Speaking of abroad markets, we have no doubt that the European version, known as the Kuga, will come with diesel versions in the offer as well. Of course, we count on a familiar 2.0-liter turbodiesel.
One of the biggest novelties for this redesign will be a hybrid version. Our hawk-eye photographers spotted that the testing model features an instrument cluster that clearly indicates electrified powertrain. Unfortunately, we are still waiting to hear something from the officials. A plug-in hybrid version should come in the future as well.
2020 Ford Escape Release Date and Price
According to the spy shots, the 2020 Ford Escape is in the final stage of development and should be ready for the premiere pretty soon. We expect that the new model will hit the market sometime in the second half of the year, with the starting price of around 25.000 dollars.
