The Equinox represents Chevy in the segment of compact crossovers. Despite good sales numbers, the current models look like it can’t keep the pace with the competitors. Therefore, the company prepares an update for the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. After less than three years, we are about to see major changes, in various aspects. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is styling. We are about to see significantly update aesthetics, but that won’t be all from this refresh.
Changes on the inside are expected as well, both in terms of the cabin design and features. Of course, expect to see additional pieces of standard equipment as well. When it comes to the powertrain, the current engines will carry on, but there is a chance to see novelties as well, particularly in terms of electrification. All in all, there are many interesting things to come with the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox, so expect to see it a little bit earlier than usual.
2020 Chevrolet Equinox Changes
This will be a pretty major update, despite the fact that the current generation is relatively fresh. The first thing that comes to mind is the styling. We are about to see a typical facelift, which will include massive aesthetical updates. Of course, most of the novelties will come to the front.
The 2020 Chevrolet Equinox will be adapted to the company’s new design language, which debuted with the new Chevy Blazer. In practice, this means a significant departure compared to the current model. New grille, headlights, and bumper are just some of the parts that are about to come with this update, all with a much sharper approach. Judging on the design model, big changes are about to come at the rear end as well. Count on new taillights, revised bumper and even some modifications on the tailgate and C/D pillars as well.
Of course, count on other typical updates as well, such as new color options, new sets of wheels, etc.
The interior is probably the weakest point of this crossover. This particularly refers to materials quality, which is pretty disappointing in some areas. Therefore, we hope this update will bring improvements, particularly in terms of the dashboard design, which should feature some more upscale materials and fancier color schemes. Also, count on more standard equipment.
On the other side, there isn’t much to do in terms of the base cabin layout. The overall design will remain the same and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. When it comes to comfort, seats feature decent quality, while leg and headroom are pretty average for the class. When it comes to the cargo area, things could be better, as you can count on 30 cubic feet behind rear seats.
When it comes to safety, the company will have to do a lot if they won’t Equinox to be competitive. A rearview camera is the only standard feature in the current model, which is pretty disappointing for today’s standards of the automotive industry. Things like adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera, rear parking sensors, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, a safety alert seat, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, forward collision warning and others are currently optional and we hope some of them will become a part of standard equipment in the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox.
2020 Chevrolet Equinox Engines
Base models will continue with a familiar 1.5-liter turbo-four engine, which is good for about 170 horsepower. Such amount of power seems pretty much okay, but those who prefer something peppier can opt for a bigger 2.0 turbo engine. This unit will undergo some notable upgrades for the next year, which will provide better efficiency. In practice, this would mean more power and better fuel economy. The current version is rated at around 230 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, and we expect a slight boost for this occasion.
Of course, we count on a diesel version as well. The Equinox is one of the rare compact crossovers that come in a diesel version for the North American market. It is a well-known 1.6-liter turbodiesel, which is good for about 137 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. It’s not the most attractive choice for those who prefer a sporty ride but definitely is for those who want to save some money on fuel. This one returns around 28 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway, which is significantly better compared to gasoline counterparts.
Finally, some reports are suggesting a hybrid version for this update. At this point, we still don’t have any official information and some reliable sources are suggesting that electrified versions won’t be coming in the next couple of years.
2020 Chevrolet Equinox Release Date and Price
We expect to see 2020 Chevrolet Equinox sometime in the third quarter of the year. Base models should go around 24.000 dollars.
