The famous nameplate came back after years of break. Once a capable SUV, the Blazer is rather a crossover these days. The company came up with a completely new model, which represents Chevy in the segment of mid-size crossovers. Compared to the familiar Traverse, which is also classified as a mid-size SUV, the new model is smaller and comes with two rows of seating. As you may presume, this model is sportier, designed to compete with models like Ford Edge and Honda Passport which, despite being pretty large vehicles, put the focus on performances instead of practicality. The new model came recently, so you may presume that the 2020 Chevrolet Blazer will represent the second production year.
Therefore, we would normally expect no bigger changes. However, it looks like the company things differently, as numerous reports about novelties have been circulating around. In any case, we don’t expect to see it before the last quarter of the year.
2020 Chevrolet Blazer Design
Just a quick look and you can easily realize that the new Blazer doesn’t have too many things in common with previous vehicles under this nameplate, which dates from five decades ago. First of all, this is not a body-on-frame SUV like its predecessors. It is rather a unibody crossover, which rides on the company’s familiar C1 platform and shares a lot of mechanical parts with models like Cadillac XT5 and GMC Acadia. However, it comes with significantly different styling, which is a big departure even from the rest of Chevy’s lineup. So, we may presume this is the direction in which the other models will go in the future. With its sporty styling and good aerodynamics, this crossover offers very nice driving experiences, but it looks like we will see a couple of interesting changes for the next year.
Besides North America, this model is designed for the Chinese market as well. We have no doubt that the company will do a couple of modifications to make this crossover more suitable to this marker and one of the possibilities is to see a stretched, three-row version. This model will feature a longer wheelbase and additional third row, though details in terms of size and other features are still unavailable. Also, we expect to see some tweaks in terms of standard equipment. Finally, we expect to see some changes under the hood.
When it comes to the 2020 Chevrolet Blazer interior design, things are about to remain the same. We count on the same layout, which offers a quite comfortable cabin. Still, keep in mind that some rivals are even better in this aspect, especially when it comes to the rear seat legroom and cargo area. Speaking of the cargo area, you can count on 30.5 cubic feet behind rear seats, which are some of the lowest numbers in the class. Another complaint goes to the interior quality, which is kinda a mixed bag. On one side, there are attractive sporty details like round vents and similar things, but some other areas feature disappointing quality of materials.
When it comes to tech goodies, base models are equipped with things like 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and four USB ports. With higher trims, you can get much more. Some of the highlights are things like Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless charging, multi-zone climate control, navigation, premium Bose audio system etc.
One of the biggest complaints about this crossover goes to safety features. A rearview camera is the only standard feature in base models, which is really disappointing. Things are much better in higher trims, as you can get pretty much all essentials of today’s automotive industry. That would include things like
2020 Chevrolet Blazer Engines
The initial model came with two engines in the offer. Base versions feature a familiar 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which is good for 193 horsepower. Such amount of power definitely won’t be enough for some spectacular driving experience but does the job in most situations. It is also a good choice for all those who want to save some money on fuel, as it returns around 22 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. An optional V6 engine is a far better choice, despite lower mpg ratings. It delivers almost 310 horsepower, which seems like a perfect measure for this crossover.
These days, we can also read numerous reports about a hi-performance version of this SUV, allegedly with full 500 horsepower. However, we are not sure if GM currently has some engine in the offer that can be used for this 2020 Chevrolet Blazer 500 hp versions, considering the platform and company’s powertrain lineup.
Release Date and Price
Even if we see some updates for the next year, don’t expect launch before the last quarter of the year. When it comes to the 2020 Chevrolet Blazer, base models will go around 29.000 dollars.
