The carmaker from Ingolstadt already has a pretty strong SUV lineup but the expansion goes on. The 2020 Audi Q4 is next in the line and it should arrive later in the year. As you may presume, the new model will be slotted in between Q3 and Q5 models. More precisely, it will be based on the recently redesigned Q3 and come in, these days popular, coupe-like layout. Despite the distinctive look, it will share most of its characteristics with the more common small crossover, especially in terms of mechanics, which are about to be largely the same. The new model has been spotted on the road. It still wears a complete camouflage, but it looks like it is in the final stage of development and should hit the market soon.
2020 Audi Q4 Redesign
In terms of base design characteristics, the new model won’t go far away from the Q3 model. It will also ride on a familiar, highly-modular MQB platform, which underprints pretty much everything from the VW Group that is compact or subcompact in terms of size. Still, several reports suggest changes in terms of the wheelbase. The current Q3 measures around 102.5 inches, while the 2020 Audi Q4 will probably feature slightly more. However, we don’t expect to see an increase in terms of the overall length. The new model will feature much shorter overhangs in order to get a more exclusive look, so it won’t be a surprise if we see even shorter overall length.
2020 Audi Q4 Styling
When it comes to the styling, the 2020 Audi Q4 will come in a couple-like layout. Such a design approach became very popular in the past several years, so most rival carmakers already have such vehicles in the offer. Audi recently introduced a new flagship model called Q8. The 2020 Audi Q4 should take a lot of inspiration from this large SUV. This especially refers to the rear end, which is about to come with a similar roofline, just in a much smaller package. While the tailgate is about to get a new shape, taillights will probably keep the same design as in the Q3 model.
On the other side, the front end will be pretty much identical to the odd-numbered sibling. The recent redesign has brought a new design language and, as you may presume, changes are rather subtle than significant. There’s a new, bigger grille, as well as new angular headlights. Moreover, the complete styling seems to have a more angular approach. Of course, we count on optional visual upgrades, such as a familiar S-Line, for example. This package includes things like new wheels, bumpers etc. and we have no doubt that the 2020 Audi Q4 will be available with this aesthetical variations as well.
2020 Audi Q4 Interior
Once again, count on a lot of influence from the Q3 model. The 2020 Audi Q4 will come with the practically identical cabin design, especially when it comes to the dashboard layout, which is about to feature the same shape. The new dash is characterized by plenty of horizontal lines and sharp angles, while the steering wheel features familiar D-shape. Compared to some previous generations of Audi models, the new dash is no more characterized by tablet-like touchscreens, but rather by those integrated ones. The overall cabin quality is on a pretty high level. Typically for Audi, materials are pretty much on par with Mercedes-Benz definitely better than the ones you can find inside the Bavarian rival.
On the other side, the rear area of the cabin will be slightly different. Due to a longer wheelbase, we expect that Audi will manage to solve potential headroom and cargo issues. According to some reports, cargo capacity will go around 50 cubic feet. On the other side, the rear bench will definitely be tighter compared to the Q3 model.
2020 Audi Q4 Engines
This aspect of the new crossover brings no doubts. The North American version will come with a familiar 2.0-liter engine. It delivers around 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. Such amount of power should be enough to move this SUV from 0 to 60 in a little bit more than 8 seconds. For those who prefer something quicker, the good news is that the hi-performance RS Q4 should come as well. This version should come with a familiar 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo engine, with a max output of 400 horsepower.
On other markets, we count on a smaller 1.5-liter gasoline engine, as well as on familiar TDI diesel units. The future could bring an electrified version as well.
2020 Audi Q4 Release Date and Price
The all-new 2020 Audi Q4 is in a late stage of development and we expect to arrive sometime late in the second half of the year. Most likely, base models will go somewhere around 35.000 dollars.
