Big crossover made by Mazda is coming as CX-9. We don’t know yet if this model is going to start new generation, since smaller CX-5 will. This is a part of new lineup of SUVs, prepared for next season. Three-row vehicle is coming as 2018 Mazda CX-9, and it will be larger and more comfortable than before. There is also plenty of power under the hood, and driving is improved with new suspension and braking system. Also, pricing and fuel economy are getting a boost, which is going to be accepted with appreciation by buyers.
2018 Mazda CX-9 drivetrain
Power of the 2018 Mazda CX-9 will come from turbocharged 2.5-l four-cylinder engine, which is capable to make 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Although this is not so big engine, twin scroll turbocharger with modern technologies, such as Dynamic Pressure Turbo System can deliver so much power. Also, new driving system is consisted of two inner tubes and two other external cylindrical tubes. On the other hand, 3.7-l V6 unit, placed in current crossover could be carried over. It is heavier engine, but amount of power is higher. We can’t predict exact numbers, since many additions will be installed on it, and V6 is far away from same powertrain carried by last edition of CX-9 SUV.

Engineers and designers in Mazda put a lot of effort in improving driving quality. Now, inside the cabin, it is going to be much quieter than before. Also, FWD and AWD can deliver smooth ride, so long trips can elapse quicker. A lot of infotainment features will be installed in 2018 Mazda CX-9, and what is more important – controls are better, positioned on steering wheel and touch-screen display. From there, driver can monitor situation in traffic and around the vehicle, as well as improved safety systems.
2018 Mazda CX-9 mileage and competition
Estimated fuel economy is in par with major competitors of 2018 Mazda CX-9. With improvement from current model, new SUV can go around 25 mpg combined, with near 30 mpg on highway. All wheel drive can do slightly worse mpg rate, but it is still ok. When it hits dealerships, 2018 CX-9 will face competition in new Hyundai Santa Fe, and some older models, such as Toyota Highlander, which expects new generation in following seasons.
