As one of the leaders in the segment of luxury SUVs and crossovers, Lexus tries to various types of models. However, there is one big hole in its lineup. Toyota’s luxury division definitely needs a new mid-size crossover. Although there is a RX model, which will continue to be produced even when new model come, Lexus needs a model that will feature three rows of seats, in order to be competitive to the models like Audi Q7, Infiniti QX60 etc. Because of that, company will launch new model. Although it was expected that new model could come already early next year, it will come a little bit later, as 2017 Lexus TX.
2017 Lexus TX platform
The 2017 Lexus TX will come as an all-new model, so there is still much unknown about new model. The platform that will be used for new crossover is still unknown. However, it is pretty much for sure that chassis from popular RX won’t, because it simply can’t be adapted for three rows of seats, which will be one of the most important features of 2017 TX. New platform will most likely be borrowed from Toyota Highlander. It is a XU50 version of company’s versatile K-platform, which perfectly meets the demands of new crossover. However, there is also a possibility that 2017 Lexus TX could use a Toyota’s New N Platform, which is used for sedans like Lexus IS and GS sedans.
2017 Lexus TX powertrain
The 2017 Lexus TX is expected to come both in petrol and hybrid variants. The base model is expected to come powered with company’s proven 3.5 liter VTEC SOHC V6 engine, which is good enough for 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. It will come paired with 8-speed automatic transmission. We also expect to see a hybrid variant. Although there is no official confirmation, this variant is also pretty much for sure. However, exact configuration is still unknown.
2017 Lexus TX release date and price
The 2017 Lexus TX is expected to come next year. More precise date of launch is still unknown. Same thing is with price. However, there are some rough predictions that new model should go around 60.000 dollars. Main competitors will be models like Audi Q7, Infiniti QX60, Mercedes-Benz GLE etc.
