In late 90’s, Toyota’s management had a plan to make some kind of a more road-friendly version of popular 4Runner SUV. Finally, in 2000, company released model called Highlander. It is some kind of counterpart of more rugged, truck-based 4Runner. This model instantly became very popular and even nowadays, it is one of the best-selling crossovers from this Japanese manufacturer. It is a mid-size 5-door crossover, which is in production for more than 15 years. So far, we have seen three generations of it. The newest, third-generation model was unveiled in 2013 and came as 2014 year model. When it is about next-year model, it is expected that 2016 Toyota Highlander will come without bigger changes, compared to current model.
2016 Toyota Highlander details
As we already mentioned, 2016 Toyota Highlander will come with the pretty much same characteristics as model that came two years ago. It will ride on the same Toyota K platform, that is used also for several other models, both from Toyota and Lexus brands. When it is about exterior, new model will come with same body style. The most notable change will be new rims. The 2016 Highlander will come with new-designed alloy wheels. Beside this change, there is also a possibility to see new model with some new color options. Inside, we don’t expect to see some bigger changes neither. The basic features will remain unchanged and we could only expect to see some modifications when it is about infotainment system and similar stuff.
2016 Toyota Highlander engine
The 2016 Toyota Highlander will be offered in three variants, when it is about engines. Just like previous-year model, there will be two gasoline and one hybrid model in offer. The base variant will be powered by 2.7 liter engine which will be available only in FWD configuration. There will be also a 3.5 liter V6 unit with 245 horsepower, which will be also available in AWD variant. Both engines will be paired with 6-speed automatic transmission. When it is about hybrid model, 2016 Toyota Highlander will combine same V6 gasoline engine with multiple electric motors and a battery pack. It will be equipped with CVT, which will deliver power to all wheels. Total output is around 280 horsepower.
2016 Toyota Highlander release date and price
The 2016 Toyota Highlander will come this fall. It will come without changes in price, which means that base model will cost around 30.000 dollars, which top variants will go up to 44.000 dollars.
