Toyota is considered as one of the key players in world’s car industry and its models are available all over the world. This company also has several independent departments in different parts of the world, which have a task to design vehicles which will meet special demands of specific markets. One of these departments is Toyota’s division in Thailand, which develops vehicles for markets like Thailand, India, Indonesia etc. One of the best-known models designed by this division is Toyota Fortuner, which was originally launched in 2005 and which is available also in the other parts of the world, on markets like Argentina, Venezuela, Egypt etc. This year we will finally see a next-generation model, which will come as 2016 Toyota Fortuner.
2016 Toyota Fortuner details
The 2016 Toyota Fortuner will keep the same basic characteristics as original model. It will be a 4-door mid-size SUV, which will feature front engine and RWD layout. Just like original, it will share most of characteristics with company’s well-known pickup Hilux, which means that it will be based on Toyota New Global Architecture or TNGA platform. Beside Hilux, this SUV will also borrow many technical solutions from models like Innova or 4Runner. When it is about outside look, 2016 Fortuner will come with significant changes, which seems logical because original model is about ten years old. Although it will feature traditional SUV lines, it will look much modern, mainly because of new front fascia, which will come completely redesigned. It will feature new slimmer twin slat front grille and sleeker headlights, and also new front bumper, while rear end will come with redesigned taillights and similar things. The 2016 Toyota Fortuner will get new cabin which will, beside new styling, also feature three rows of seats.
2016 Toyota Fortuner under the hood
At this moment, we still don’t know which engines will be used for 2016 Toyota Fortuner. Current model is available both with petrol and diesel engines. There are predictions that some of the engines will remain, while some units will be replaced by new-generation engines. When it is about transmission, it is rumored that current 5-speed manual and 4- and 5-speed automatic gearboxes will be replaced for sure.
2016 Toyota Fortuner release date
In Asian countries, 2016 Toyota Fortuner will probably come by the end of year, while in the other parts of the world it will appear in early 2016. Main competitors will be models like Hyundai Santa Fe or Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
