In 2006 Toyota released new, pretty much unusual vehicle called FJ Cruiser. It is a retro style SUV, a performance off-road vehicle, which is created to bring back the spirit of legendary Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser series. Model was presented in 2005, at the International Auto Show in Detroit, while production started in January next year. Nowadays, this model is present on many markets such as Japan, North America or Australia for example. According to the latest reports, production of this model will be ended soon. Although it was primarily planned for 2015 year model, we will see it for one more year, as 2016 Toyota FJ Cruiser.
2016 Toyota FJ Cruiser characteristics
The 2016 Toyota FJ Cruiser will be the last year model in production, so changes are not expected. It is designed as performance SUV, oriented mainly on an off-road drive. This model shares many parts with other models of the company, mostly with Land Cruiser Prado. The 2016 FJ Cruiser will continue with same short-wheelbase design and look that reminds very on original FJ 40. It also features special HSS (high strength steel), which provides great side protection, without need for door pillar. What we also found interesting is that this model is the last one that features “Toyota” name spelled across the grille, instead of company’s recognizable emblem.
When it is about interior, 2016 Toyota FJ Cruiser will continue with the same styling that is mainly focused on the off-road practicality. All surfaces are very rough and extremely washable. All controls are oversized, because most of the drivers will wear gloves. The 2016 Toyota FJ Cruiser also features interesting and helpful gauges such as compass, inclinometer and temperature, and there is also a 110-volt rear outlet.
2016 Toyota FJ Cruiser engine
For this type of vehicle you need proven, extremely durable and reliable engine. The 2016 Toyota FJ Cruiser will use company’s well-known 4.0 liter V6 engine. It has maximum output of 237 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of max torque. It is available in RWD and AWD configurations. Transmission is 5-speed automatic or 6-speed manual, which is available only for AWD models.
