The Nissan Xterra is a SUV that originally came in 1999, as 2000 year model. It was named after the EXTERIA off-road triathlon race that Nissan sponsored from 1998 to 2006. Original model was in class of compact SUVs, while second-generation model came bigger, as a mid-size SUV. Second generation of this off-road vehicle came 2004, as 2005 year model. After ten years, it is still under production. During this long period, it was updated for two times, in 2009 and 2014. The 2016 Nissan Xterra is expected to come with the same characteristics as previous-year model. According to the several reports that appeared on the internet, this will be the last year of production for this SUV.

As we already mentioned, 2016 Nissan Xterra will come with the pretty much same characteristics as previous-year model. It will ride on same Nissan’s F-Alpha platform, which is also used for Frontier pickup. It will feature the same, recognizable look of this SUV, that hasn’t changed much during these ten years. This model was face lifted in 2009, but those changes weren’t big. On the other side, the cabin made through several updates. The last one was in 2014, when this SUV came with several improvements. The 2016 Nissan Xterra will feature all of these changes. The most notable ones are Nissan’s new infotainment system which includes SiriusXM navigation system, streaming audio via Bluetooth etc. It also features Bluetooth Hands-free Phone System, steering wheel audio controls, push-type HVAC controls, heated front seats and many other.

When it is about engines, 2016 Nissan Xterra will be offered probably with just one engine, when it is about North American market. It is a 4.0 liter V6 gasoline engine, which outputs 261 hp and 281 lb-ft of max torque. There will be 2WD and 4WD configurations. RWD model will use 5-speed automatic transmission, while 2016 Xterra AWD variant will be also available with 6-speed manual transmission.

The price is expected to remain unchanged. Base model will go around 23.000 dollars, while top models could cost over 30.000 dollars.

According to various reports, this will be the final year of production for this SUV. Nissan has neither confirmed nor denied Xterra’s demise.
