This mid-size crossover was originally launched in 2001. So far, there are three generations of this excellent crossover. Current model was launched in 2012 as 2013 year model. After many several concepts and teasers, refreshed model finally came. It was presented at the 2015 New York Auto Show and it will hit the market later this year as 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander. It come as company’s try to keep this crossover competitive, until next-generation model comes, which is expected to be in 2017. The 2016 Outlander will feature both exterior and interior changes, while engine line up will carry over from last year.
2016 Mitsubishi Outlander exterior changes
Just like it is the case with most of facelifts, main changes will come at the front end. The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander comes with redesigned front fascia which includes new grille with two horizontal slats, revisited bumper with a massive, trapezoidal inlet and chrome ornaments. It also features slightly reshaped fog lights. Rear end also comes with changes. It features new taillights, chrome tailgate, revisited bumper and several other smaller modifications. New model looks sportier and more aggressive, and it will surely attract many customers, until fourth generation comes.
2016 Mitsubishi Outlander interior changes
The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander also comes with changes inside the cabin. There are new steering wheel, seats, trims etc. It also comes with auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink. Safety features like Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) are now available in lower trims too.
2016 Outlander engine
When it is about engines, 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander comes without changes. The base unit is 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine with 166 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Optional engine is 3.0 liter V6 with 224 hp and 215 lb-ft of torque. The 2016 Outlander will come with improved CVT, which will provide better acceleration and fuel economy. Model with 3.0 liter engine is available with 6-Speed Sportronic® transmission with Paddle Shifters.
2016 Mitsubishi Outlander released date, price and competition
Refreshed model will come late this year. The base 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander will go around 23.000 dollars, while top models will go over 32.000 dollars. Main rivals will be models like Toyota RAV4 and Kia Sorento.
