This model was originally launched in 1997 and it was the one of very first luxury crossovers in the world. During all these years, we have seen three generations of it, while new, fourth-generation model is on its way. New model has been already presented and it is expected to come on U.S. market later this year, as 2016 Lexus RX. New model will come with plenty of changes and improvement. Beside new styling, improved engine and new hi-tech features, new model will also come with some changes in dimensions, wheelbase etc.
2016 Lexus RX design
The 2016 Lexus RX comes completely redesigned, as fourth-generation model. It will come with completely new look, which will be adapted to the brand’s new design language. Some of the most notable features are massive grille, which together with new L-shaped lighting makes beautiful front fascia. It also comes with “floating” roof created by the blacked-out C-pillar, similar to one that can be seen on new Nissan Murano. When it is about dimensions, 2016 Lexus RX will be almost 5 inches longer, compared to its predecessor, while wheelbase will be longer for about two inches.
When it is about interior, new model will be characterized by a plenty of latest hi-tech features. Some of most notable are large 12.3-inch infotainment screen, which comes as standard, while optional color head-up display is optional feature. We already mentioned that new model comes with 2-inches longer wheelbase, so it is pretty much for sure that third row of seats will also available as optional. The 2016 Lexus RX will be also equipped with many safety systems. The list of those features is very long, so we will mention just few of them such as collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams.
2016 Lexus RX under the hood
Just like previous model, 2016 Lexus RX will be available both in petrol and hybrid variants. The base model will be powered by the same 3.5 liter gasoline V6 engine, which will come with additional 30 horses (now 300 hp) and also with improved economy. The hybrid variant will be powered by the same, but slightly modified, gasoline engine and with three electric motors. Two of those electric motors will send power to front wheels (each for one wheel), while third motor will power rear wheels. Total output of this system should be also somewhere about 300 hp.
2016 Lexus RX release date
It is expected that 2016 Lexus RX will come to United States in the third quarter of this year. Price should be announced in near future.
