The Flex is a full-size crossover, which was originally launched in 2008. However the idea of this car was born few years earlier, so it was presented for the first time in 2005 as Ford Fairlane Concept. Two years later, production model was presented and finally, it went on sale in June 2008. Although pretty unusual, it was very well accepted both by critics and crowd. It was refreshed in 2013 and, according to the latest reports, we will see a second generation of it in near future. It is expected that new model will come by the end of year, as 2016 Ford Flex.
2016 Ford Flex details
The 2016 Ford Flex will be completely redesigned. It will come with plenty of changes, compared to original model. The base design of the vehicle will remain pretty much the same but, on the other side, it will feature plenty of new design solutions, which will make it more attractive to the buyers. Just like original model, 2016 Ford Flex will feature recognizable boxy SUV design. It will also come with three rows of seats. According to rumors, it will keep to ride on the same D4 platform, which is used for models like Explorer or Lincoln MKT. Despite same platform, it will come with completely new styling, as we already mentioned. The most notable changes will be on the front end. The 2016 Ford Flex will come with new front fascia which will feature larger grille and reshaped, more angular headlights. Rear end will also follow these design changes and it will come with many modifications too.
When it is about interior, there will be also many changes. New cabin will come in new styling, which won’t be drastically changed, but more like improved. Current model already features a plenty of advanced safety systems, but with 2016 Ford Flex many of them will come as standard features now. However, things like cruise control, forward collision alert, blind-spot monitors, rearview camera and parking sensors, will most likely remain optional.
2016 Ford Flex engines
Current model is available in two variants. Base model uses 3.5 Duratec V6 engine, which outputs 262 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. The second one is 3.5 liter V6 twin-turbocharged EcoBoost, which comes as optional. Although it has the same displacement, it is far advanced and beside much more power (355 horses and 350 lb-ft of max torque), it also has better fuel economy. For the 2016 Flex, we are pretty sure that EcoBoost unit will remain, while Duratec engine will be probably replaced by some smaller and more advanced unit.
2016 Ford Flex price
According to the latest reports, 2016 Ford Flex should keep the same price as its predecessor, which goes between 29.000 and 38.000 dollars.
