2016 Fiat 500X

As you probably know, Italian car maker decided to revamp one of its most iconic models of all time, the legendary cinquecento. Its Spiritual successor came in 2007, while North American model was launched in 2010. New model was accepted very well and company decided to enlarge its offer, so there are several body styles and variants now in offer. The newest model is called 500X. Fiat decided to enter into the crossover market and this mini crossover is expected to make great sales results. It was released in 2014 for the European market, while North American model will come this year as 2016 Fiat 500X.

The 2016 Fiat 500X will be based on the company’s Small US Wide 4X4 platform, derived from Grande Punto’s platform. When it is about visual appearance, production model come with the pretty much same look as concept that was shown in 2012. There are only some minor, barely notable modifications. For example, it doesn’t features recognizable horizontal taillights, considered as 500’s trademark. It comes with vertical units and a tailgate that becomes narrower towards the bumper. Compared to standard or “L” model, it features much higer ground clearance, which is expected since this is a crossover.

The interior of 2016 Fiat 500X also comes with some changes, compared to other “500” models. It shares most of the characteristics with 500L, but it also uses many design solutions from Jeep Renegade. Dashboard is slightly revisited and it comes with 5 or 6.5-inch touchscreen. The 2016 500X comes with Uconnect infotainment system with both Bluetooth and USB connectivity.  It comes with beautiful styling, featuring two-tone schemes with contrasting colors for the seats, door panels and the dashboard in plenty of variations.

Although European version is available with no less than seven engines, North American model will be available in only two variants. The base model will be powered by 1.4 liter 4-cylinder Turbocharged engine which outputs 160 horses and 184 pound-feet of torque. On the other side, there will be 2.4 liter 4-cylinder Chrysler’s Tigershark engine, which outputs 184 hp and 175 lb-ft. Firs engine will be available with either 6-speed manual or 6 speed dual-clutch transmission, while 2.4 liter unit will use Chrysler’s 9-speed automatic gearbox.

2016 Fiat 500X price and competition

The base 2016 Fiat 500X will go around 20.000 dollars, while better-equipped models could go up to 28.000 dollars. Main competitors will be models like Jeep Renegade and Mini Countryman.
